The modern miracles of science have unlocked remarkable ways for people to actually live even after losing motor control. This is certain to be terrifying. I know I do fear being incapacitated. But I also look forward to all the experiences my life has in store for me. So by that, I would rather experience more even if it including the unbearable frustration of not having control of my body.
On a more prescient level, I am very interested to know what the future of integrating our selves and our technology may lead to. I can imagine still being able to interact with people through some type of synthetic interface. That would be a far cry from death, in my opinion.
Bottom line: I'd choose extended painful experience over a quick and painless end. |

i don't know...fortunately neither has ever happened to me. but i think losing the ability to move my body...

Excellent question. It forces one to "struggle" with the answer and answerer. Doctors had told my wife to gather the family because I would not last the night. Obviously, they were wrong. But being that close it didn't frighten me it was the opposite. Worse...far worse to lose the ability to use your body............Make sure you have a "Living Will" in place so your wishes are carried out. I do now. |
