Hard water is ordinary water that has a high mineral concentration in it, usually calcium and magnesium. I would imagine that is called 'hard' because of the minerals which are hard when not dilluted in water. |

ihard water is the opposite of what people call soft water. soft water falls out of the tap slow and free - casual like. hard water comes shooting out of the tap really fast - and a lot of it. when u put ur hands under the water it might sometimes splash out on the sink. but soft water doesnt splash. |

Hard water is water that contains non-soluble ions.
It is called Hard Water because the impurities make it feel and taste harder, it also gets stopped in a filter. |

water with a lot of minerals and sediments in it. |

Hard water is water that contains, in most cases, a high level of calcium/limescale. This causes scaling in kettles, boilers, washing machines, dish washers, radiators and similar items. In severe cases, an immersion heater can contain so much scaling that the heating element is completely covered and you end up in fact heating the scaling instead of the water. Kettles can be descaled with a shop bought descaler but immersion heaters are harder to do. There is a coil type electrical fitting that is connected to the water inlet pipe that is supposed to remove the problem before it happens but I have no personal knowledge as to its efficiency. |

It's water with a high dissolved mineral content. It's called that because it's hard to get soap to suds up and clean clothes and because it leaves mineral deposits in the sink or tub or spout. |

Ice, because it's frozen. |

1. Hard water is water which contains minerals like calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, bicarbonates, sulfates, or chlorides, because it has been exposed to rocks or rocky soils. Hard water can corrode, discolor, or deposit its minerals, in and around materials such as water pipes.
2. Total concentration of calcium and magnesium ions, expressed as the equivalent concentration (mg/L) of calcium carbonate. "Hard" water is water that contains lots of calcium carbonate and other minerals. |

On degree of hardness on the German scale is the equivalent of 10 mg of CaO in one liter of water.
That means that 10 dH is = 100 mg of carbonates, bicarbonates of Ca or Mg or both in one liter of water. |

Hard water contains various ions in solution - principally Calcium. When hard water is heated it can leave deposits of this behind in the form of Calcium Carbonate (limescale). Perhaps it is this hard stone-like deposit that gives hard water its name. |
