There are Credit Unions and Saftey Deposit Boxes. The only problem with Saftey Deposit Boxes are they are not insured. I personally like Credit Unions better than banks. I myself use a Credit Union. Good luck! |

Check into a credit union... that's a good alternative to a traditional bank. |

I was trying to think of the name which I then read in an answer from 'Manna???', namely 'Credit Unions'. There is something similar here in England, only my mind is a blank on it.
Banks and society have us by the short and curlies, you NEED a Bank Account to do almost anything to run / organise your life, and these institutions might seem as if they are there to help you, but only so that hey can make and take the lions share of the interest made by them for us giving them our money to take care of.
I can appreciate that the Banking System is something of a somewhat delicate balancing act, ~ AND ~ that every once in a while, a really useful and a 'User Friendly' bank emerges from the morass of the mess on the high streets. But every once in a while, it all needs a good shakeup to get them out of their High Moral Status way of being.
Sorry, I got off the answer and onto my hobbyhorse.

i'm a credit union member and have been for years! they have no minimum balances for most checking accounts and they have the lowest fees (and they very rarely charge fees). plus my credit union (and many others) have started a great overdraft program where if i don't have money to cover a check, they clear it anyways and just charge me a fee (typically $15 - $25) which is way better than charging a bounced fee, sending it back and getting a fee from the company. it's been a huge help if i'm ever short while waiting for my check to deposit. my credit union has a great online banking system and makes paying my bills online a snap! most are doing online banking now! best wishes |

Cash, money orders to pay bills, cheaper than what banks cost you for checks, transactions, teller fees, ad nauseum. |

well, try paypal, but you need it linked to a bank account. maybe a foreign bank ccount.
you can pay all your bills with a credit card, and then just have to only pay one monthly bill each month. |

You can use a credit union, and some of the online stock trading companies offer checking accounts.
The only alternative is to cash your checks and deal with cash only. |

Buy a pre-paid Visa or Mastercard. After you cash your check you can load the money on the card and pay bills over the phone or online with it. |

Your needs would be met admirably by one of many banks. Banks take deposits, and allow depositors to draw on those deposits to pay others. They can also offer loans, which you need not take of course.
Any organisation capable of meeting your needs would be, by any other name, a 'Bank'. |
