Since they seem old enough to entertain themselves, you may be off the hook. At 12 years old, I would be annoyed to be left with a babysitter and trying to engage him in activity may just piss him off more.
I would play it safe with bringing a guitar hero or something like that, maybe a wii if you have one, sometimes a local video rental store will rent out game systems along with games if you don't already have one.
I think the usual coloring books and puzzles would be a bad idea though. |

they will probably already have things they want to do being that they are older. Video games if they have them will probably be the best thing. You will probably just have to monitor that they arent doing anything they arent suppose to |

I'm guessing they both have different bedtimes... I would bring over a bunch of movies like some more for younger people like the eight year old and then when he goes to bed watch a movie with the 12 year old that is more meant for his age. |

Maybe some board games that are designed for kids around the age of the younger boy. The 12-year-old might have fun feeling like he's helping his little brother learn a new game. My six-year-old loves games based on kids' shows. Like Curious George Uno, Clifford the Big Red Dog Bingo, and the like, are a big hit with kids around the younger boy's age. You could also try games like Clue or Monopoly.
Maybe pick out a few DVD's and make some popcorn. Kids seem to love having a special movie day. You can keep them occupied with movies and games...like a Kids' Fun Day type thing.
If you don't mind feeling a bit silly, you could play Charades with them. Kids love when someone older acts silly with them.
Hope this helps, or you get a few ideas on here that will work! |

well i think you should consider hide and seek as everyone loves this game. Then ask them if they would like to watch a dvd. Make sure this dvd is something suitable for boys of these ages so a PG that includes some boys things like cars or action fighting. |

play a good ol' fashioned board game, such as trouble or life. something easy. :) monopoly tends to get long and tedious... and it sucks when that person can't do math.
or, play uno.
maybe you guys can also play soccer in the backyard or something?
make something with play dough...idk. just look through their toybox.
and if worst comes to worst just sit them down, pop some popcorn and watch a movie. |

some of those ideas about games, etc are good. one thing that i also did with older kids was make up scavenger hunts.
take some little item and hide it. have about 5 clues also hidden. i also made the clues somewhat crypic. for example if something was hidden in a lampshade i'd say, "if you find this clue it will be just right, it's time, for now, we shed some light" or something.
the kids loved it. i did always make sure that the pieces were visible in at least some way.
have fun! |

with the 8 year old, you can play with his trucks or cars with him & make a car wash or garage with what resources you have, make a fort (use a couple chairs and a sheet), Drawing, etc. Help him to use his imagination..
as for the 12 year old, this is a difficult age. he probably likes video games. maybe you could all watch a movie together.. |

the 12 year old most likely wont want to have anything to do with you so he will probably stay in his room. But if not you can:
1.play a board game of their choice with them
2.play cards
3.watch a movie
4.take them to a park and play their favorite sport
5.play video games
hope this helps :) |

bring some disney movies or kid friendly shows! that usually keeps them busy, and if you show them little Einstein or baby Einstein what ever its called... it usually knocks em out lmaaooo also just use the toys they have at their house to entertain them. they shouldn't be that hard to handle, and always make sure they're not hungry and they're diaper isn't full, otherwise they'll get fussy. |

Imagining you're not babysitting is pretty fun. Answering questions on Yahoo Answers.
Oh I know you could bring a scary mask and pop out of closets in their home wearing the mask! That's fun! |
