To educate/indoctrinate people?
"In 1983, McDonald’s invested $40 million in Hamburger University, a 130,000-square foot facility on an 80-acre campus located at McDonald’s Corporate Offices in Oak Brook, IL. This industry-leading facility includes:
13 teaching rooms
300-seat auditorium
12 interactive education team rooms
3 kitchen labs
State-of-the-art service training labs
Today in the U.S., there are 22 regional training teams and additional HAMBURGER UNIVERSITY campuses in Sydney, Munich, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Brazil. All apply Hamburger University’s Global Learning Approach, which allows training materials and tools to be integrated into different languages and cultures."

To make a profit and grow its' business. To blame McDonald's for obesity problems is ridiculous. Nobody makes fat people go to McDonald's. People should take responsibility for their own diet tsk.
Saying that I could quite go a Quarter Pounder with cheese.... yum..! |

They wish to provide tasty foods for their customers, so they can make money. "Making Money" is the main objective of any business and without it the company would go bust. They want to succeed in beating their rivals (KFC, Burger King etc) so they need to make their customers happy.
They promote their stores via the media, (TV, Radio, Posters, Newspapers, Advertisements etc).
They also need and have trainned staff who are "supposed to" put a smile on the customers faces and who deal with the business side of the company e.g. profits etc. |
