yes just a normal savings account try just the card version of Nationwides current account .
I can pay direct debits and get wages put in and also its a link and cirrus card .
The cirrus is great to let you take money out abroad and they don't even charge you to use it abroad like others .
In relation to the answers banks do credit ratings if you have bad credit you are not going to be excepted for a current account because thats the one they give you a cheque book or overdrafts so you will get turned down just open a basic account and build your credit up after a while apply for a current account if you want one

Try Alliance & Leicester current account. You can get like 5% interest if you have your salary paid into it.
You should also get a cash card so you can get cash from the Post Office as well as ATM's.
If you're worried ask for a cash card and not a cheque guarantee card so you can't go overdrawn.
Worth a try. You can apply on line.

You should be able to open a bank account if you have bad credit with no problem. You may want to check w/ a company called ChexSystems (every bank uses it), to make sure you don't have any outstanding debts w/ any other banking institution. If you do, you'll need to get it paid and removed from ChexSystems before you can get an account.

Try Nationwide they don't charge for using their debit and credit card abroad and you get some cash back from your purchases.

It depends on your rating. The smaller banks can be the most liberal and give you an account, always go for the free ones if offered.Call them up from your phone book and ask them about new accounts, you don't have to say your name. I see some above say a checking account they do not check your credit, I beg to differ most banks in fact do,that statement is outdated. The #1 thing they check for is if you left any previous bank accounts overdrafted and did not reslove. I went to open an account at a well known bank years back and I told her I had $5,000 to deposit, she returned and denied opening it saying my credit did not meet their standards.

Jonathan
I think an interest paying current account should be available to you, provided you don't want an overdraft facility and intend to pay in regularly.

When opening a deposit account, such as a savings or checking, banks don't check your credit rating.

So, just go to any bank you please and open either a checking or savings.

Cheryl
You can open a basic bank account at most banks with a bad credit rating (join the club!!) But all you will get is a current account to have money paid into, you can set up direct debits, you will get a cash card, but, you won't get a debit card or cheque book. I like the Nationwide. The staff are great and they don't look at you as if you're asking for the world when you go in to open the account.

Yes ther are several that banks will give you. These will help you to pay bills and do direct debits. Both the Halifax and Abbey national will halp you there. You will not be given an overdraught facility but you can use the debit cards all over the worl.

Banks aren't really too worried about 'credit ratings' as you are putting your money INTO them.

If you go overdrawn they simply charge you - so no worries for them.
