easy answer - egg came first as both dinosaurs and sharks come from eggs - both predating chickens by millions of years. |

Most would say the chicken, which is NOT true;
"The egg! The amniotic egg (though not a chicken egg) was around on earth thousands of years before the chicken ever evolved."
Eggs existed long before chickens, according to On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen by Harold McGee. These all-in-one reproductive cells, incorporating the nutrients to support life, evolved about a billion years ago. The first eggs were hatched in the ocean. As animal life emerged from the water about 250 million years ago, they began producing an egg with a tough leathery skin to prevent dehydration of its contents on dry land. The chicken evolved only about 5,000 years ago from an Asian bird.
What makes a chicken "more evolved" than a fly? Is it because a chicken is bigger than a fly? Both flies and chickens have had the same amount of time to evolve to their present state. The ancestors of chickens and flies split
off from their common ancestor a long time ago, but both have continued to evolve since then. |

If you believe the Bible (which I do) the hen came first. Just as Adam and Eve did not begin life as a sperm and an egg, so did the hen. God created them fully formed, with a means to procreate. |

You'd agree with me that, for the fact that cell division must occur in the formation of any foetus (which happens only after fertilization) it's not highly probable that the egg came first. So really the hen was, and then it conceived the egg. |

probably the hen b/c God said He created animals and the way it's always been pictured, they were created already adults or teenage...so the hen was created first and then she laid eggs...
otherwise, if God created all animals as babies, then it would be the egg...but seeing as He created adam as an adult, He probably did it that way with the animals too... |

God created a man and a woman first; likewise, he also created a hen and a rooster to breed.
So, hen first! |

Actually, the hen did. The egg was a gradual evolutionary addition to aid in the protection of the species. |
