What can I do about getting ripped off on eBay?
3 months ago I bought tickets for a concert that is in december, payed £160 through paypal but the seller is now no longer registered, emails get returned undeliverable and his mobile is dead - looks like i've been ripped off! What can I do; ebay say it's over 60 days since the transaction so cant help....any advice?

paypal has a resolution centre. I had problems with a product i bought from a seller in america that where basically laughing at us. They sorted it out it took a while but was resolved.

In this case paypal should be able to access the records even tho the account terminated. The account was payed to a bank account of some sort and is traceable. It is also the law that they retain records for i believe 3 years so they are legally obliged to have the details.

Paypal are pretty good at handling this sort of thing but they dont move fast so be patient and polite and persistent the 3ps.

why did you leave it so long to do anything about it?

You're wasting your time if you are thinking you have some redress through eBay or Paypal. I got ripped off for a 100 quid and went through the process and was just played along by both eBay and Paypal, they wore me down until I gave up trying to get recompense. The people that ripped me off supposedly went out of business and started again in a different name and eBay knew it.

I'm sorry but it looks as if you cant do anything. at least next time you know what to do. i am sorry i hope that person gets what he/she deserves.

from what you say there is actually very little you can do - you could try the police (fraud) if you go to advanced search on ebay and put sellers name in you will find the personal details that you can pass to the police - this happened to me a couple of months ago, it was only £20 but it really p****d me off - good luck mate

Start by filing a claim through PayPal AND eBay both. Through PayPal you are automatically protected if I understand their policy right.

tina
maybe file a claim on pay pal i think that's the best way or report him to the police,if u give them his old eBay name and any other details u have they might and i say might b abil to track him down its fraud, but unfortunately when u buy on eBay u take the risks of such things happening, its happened to me and it will happen to other people, just make sure u check the seller/buyer feedback next time that gives u a good idea what the persons like.

Contact ebay. If they can't help you, no one can.

Not sure you can do much unless you trace the individual involved...Ebay will have some clause where they are not responsible..

if you paid via paypal they should refund your $
If you didn't then you are screwed
ALWAYS ALWAYS use paypal!!!

King
Well did you ever get the tickets. I guess if ebay says it has been to long there is really nothing you can do. sorry man

Better Business Bureau
FBI Internet Crimes Division.

make a claim through paypal, and also if you used a creditcard, you can make a claim through them. keep at it, friends of mine eventually got their money back, but it took a while.

Try talking to their live help kinda like instant messaging, explain to them your situation on how they ripped you off they might be able to do something. Or contact Paypal directly they have a phone number that you can call them on and speak to one of their customer service personal.

Nommo
If Ebay have said that there is nothing that they can do then going to Paypal is not going to achieve anything as Ebay and Paypal are part of the same organisation. By the sounds of things it's obviously a scam which means that the perpetrator is long gone from both Ebay and Paypal so again it will be futile to try to resolve this using either of them.

Your only option is to report this matter to the police and give them all the information that you can about the theft.

If your Paypal account was set up to charge a credit card rather than debiting money from your bank account then report the matter to the credit card company and you may get some compensation that way.

Remember Paypal isn't always the best way of paying for something you have a lot more protection with online shopping if you use a credit card.

You need to contact eBay ASAP. http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/index.html

Ive lost over £300 in 4 different transactions.
Put it down to experience cause E-bay UK dont give a f__k as long as they make money.

I'm sworry but your stuffed, unfair as it is. You could try a chargeback on your credit card but it's too late. Other than that the Small Claims Court but I suppose it will probably be a false address.

vampyre
go through paypal and open a dispute, that is what i did when something like this happened to me and i got a full refund.

kat lady
stop using eBay, sorry 4 ur lost money though! with ur spare cash u can buy a cat! =3 cats rok!

If I am not mistaken, you can still press the matter through E-bay and report the individual first and then depending on how you paid, you can try to get your money back. Check Paypal service (not E-bay) if you payed by PayPal and seek refund that way. If you paid by CC, you are only liable up to $50; if you paid by check or money order, there may not be any recourse. But definitely report this person so they are on record in case they try and do it to someone else. My advice, only buy from those who have a good review. Check reviews of those individuals first to see if they are legit; always e-mail through e-bay, not personal e-mail off e-bay so you have a paper trail. Good luck!
