There's a feature you can purchase from your telephone company. It varies in cost, but it blocks telemarketers. I believe you have to have caller ID to do this. |

Generally:
Beware of "free" offers, where you appear to be getting something for nothing. Some companies use these to establish a "business relationship" in order to allow them to call you.
Try the EGBG counterscript: http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html
Inform anyone calling that you do not buy from telemarketers, and ask not to be called again. If companies persist, simply ask them if they can hold. Then put the receiver down on a table, and leave it for a while, long enough for them to get the message. Replace it when you've finished whatever they interrupted you from.
Telemarketers often don't send caller ID, and some phone companies will block these calls for you (it's even free with my local cable company). |

When you do get a call, tell them to take your name off of any list they have. I have worked as a telemarketer and can tell you that hanging up, getting an answering machine, etc. does not get your name taken off the list. You get put down as 'not home' or 'no' and will be called back in the future. |

Contact your local telephone company or the attorney general in your area and ask them for the no call #. You will then have to call and be put on a registry and sometimes a waiting list of up to 3 months, but it works :-) |
