Anything on the Wendy's $.99 menu or anything on McDonald's $.99 menu. You can get a few packs of gum with 5 sticks per pack, a couple of candy bars at the check out line, a corndog at Sonic, a pair of socks for a baby, sometimes a set of clothing if it's on clearance at walmart in the kids' section, a dozen regular sized eggs at the grocery store, a head of lettuce, about a pound of tomatoes, nearly 3 lbs of bananas since they're usually $.39 per pound, miniature votive candles, 25 ft of Saran wrap, 25 ft of aluminium foil, those li'l plastic zip lock bags, cheap packages of plastic reusable cups...tumblers I believe is what they're called, a 4 roll package of toilet paper, 1 roll of paper towels, a Budget microwave dinner, a pint of HEB ice cream, a few cans of cat food or dog food, a package of peanuts, 2 stamps, 2 phone calls from a pay phone, if you're at Gardenridge usually a cool 5"X7" picture frame you can put on your desk. Sometimes you'll find a cheap dollar theater that will grant you admission with a simple $1 bill...yes, they're still around believe it or not.
Lastly, yes you can get something cheap at a dollar store but look at all the better things you can get!
And don't forget, 10 dimes, 20 nickels, 100 pennies, 2 half dollars, 4 quarters and 1 silver dollar. |

One hundred pennies; or twenty nickels; or ten dimes; or four quarters; or three quarters, two dimes and a nickel; or ninety pennies and one dime; or eight dimes, five pennies and three nickels...that sort of thing.
If you want to go a different route, you could try foreign exchange. I think in England you could get about 60 pence on a good day.
Of course, I'm kidding, & you might be asking the question with for some serious reason. The only things that came to mind at first were newspapers, candy, and gum. But then I remembered there are a lot of 99-cent stores here in New York (and probably all over the place) where you could get any one of thousands of items for LESS than a dollar. The only problem: in NYC we have to pay over 8% sales tax, so you'd actually need more than a dollar to buy a dollar's worth of stuff. |
