This seems like a facetious question, but here's a whack at an actual answer. The Egg. Here's why: the actual chicken genus and species is for sure derived from a common ancestor with other birds and fowl, diverging through genetic (and morphological) changes over time. At some point, the "ancestor chicken" produced an offspring that would for all intents and purposes be insdistinguishable from what we now know as a "chicken" but was the offspring of a demonstrably different (but probably very similar) animal.
