What do I do when I become an adult?
I am only 14 but I am kinda concerned about when I grow up, what do I do. I buy a house, car, get a job, but how? I mean that is like hundreds of thousands of dollars? Where am I supposed to get that kind of money. And how much do landscapers, and mechanics get as a monthly income?

You'll learn all of that as your get older. You are going to want to get a good education, so you can get a good job, and build good credit so that you can take out a loan to buy a house and a car. You don't need all the money up front. You make payments if you aren't able to pay all at once. The amount of money you make depends on where you live, where you work and what you do and your experience.

Chrys
how about you be 14, then 15, and so on before you worry about what to do...

Don't worry about it now. You have 10 years yet at least before you get there. Once you get working you'll know when it's the right time.

i7nvd
Well, my best advice would honestly be "don't worry about it yet". As you progress in school, you'll get to see more and more topics that you're good at and interested in. You'll get some summer jobs, and see if there's anything you're interested there too. Do lots of extracurricular activities in the meantime, and try to really increase the amount of people that you know. Network! Next time your parents have friends over, ask them what they do for a living, and find out what the job entails. Once you graduate high school, you'll have a better idea of the kinds of things you want to study, and career counsellors at your university can help you find jobs that use the skills you have. All will reveal itself in good time. Patience, friend! :)

I think everyone is searching for the answer to that question. You struggle and scrimp and save and you will manage to get by.

Yikes!!!! let's worry about finishing school first!!!

Start learning something now, like programming. If you are committed, you will become a hacker. Eventually you will hack computers and steal money and not have to worry about life's problems.

wow dude relax first off how much you make is related to how good you are at what you do. realize that most jobs are in sales. even if you think they are not. A landscaper needs to sell the customer on his service before he gets to do the job. A mechanic if he is good can make over 100k a year but again you have to sell your services.
Have a positive attitude work hard and remember the house and the car are not what life is all about. choose a job you enjoy doing not one that you think makes lots of money.

You are so young. It is wise for you to think of these things early on in life, but, don't hyper-focus on it, just yet. Worry about recyclying or something like that.

You will see that you will come into yourself in the next few years. You will find things that interest you for a life long career.

I just paid my landscaper $9k to redo my backyard. I think he is making some good money. My mechanic, just replaced my fuel injector (and few other things)....$975. I think your on the right track my friend!!! You will make some good money in your lifetime.

KEY: People always have health, death, or car problems. Always strive for what will NEVER go out of style!!

Like anything else, you will do fine if you prepare.

Study in school and get good grades. Participate in the school activities.
Go to college. You can get a scholarship if you do well now.

Education is the key to success. You need to start now.

Post again when you have graduated

Good luck.

I am an older woman so I tell you this from experience. It is amazing how one road leads to the next. Don't think of everything all at one time, just take the first step and the rest will fall in line.

First make sure that you have a good education -- either go to college or some type of trade school. Instead of thinking about all of the other stuff you mentioned, start thinking about what you might like to do as a profession. After you have made that decision, follow through with your plans. This is enough for you to think about right now.

By the time you are finished with your education, you will be surprised how everythiing else falls in line.

Just try to remember that it is your life and you should make your plans accordingly. Don't feel pressured to be something that you aren't or to do something that you don't like. And, by all means never over extend yourself financially -- no matter what the other guy says. It is easy to feel like you are obligated to buy a house, start a family, and do everything else that the guy down the street does -- it's our competitive society.

If you strive to be a good person and work hard to reach "your" goals, in the end you will look back and be totally amazed at how it all came to be. And if you do it correctly and be gentle with those around you, when you are my age, your memories will be pleasant ones.

Good Luck

Go to college. Start of by living in an apartment with a room mate. Then slowing make money with whatever job you choose. Move into your own apartment or small home. Possibly get married? Buy a used car first.

Or marry a rich person.

I don't know. I won't be doing any of that myself. I'm moving to New Jersey and started a band and hope I get famous. I'll die young anyway, so I don't need an effective plan.

by thinking ahead and hopefully planning ahead, you're already on the right track... just don't grow up so fast.

get a college education; your chances of getting what you want (versus what you need) is greater

one thing for sure, DO NOT BURY YOURSELF IN CREDIT CARD BILLS. no matter what, live within your means and protect your credit. once you ruin your credit, everything costs so much more (higher interest rates)

don't grow up. If you find out that you have just end it. It isn't worth it!

If you start right now, to work on good grades, after Highschool,
it will get you into collage.
At 18, you become a legal adult, but you don't get all the adult
advantages all at once. At 16, you find a job, to pay for that
used car, to drive you to work, and empress the girls.
After school is done. You get that job, you traind yourself for,
all them years. You soon learn, it is time, to find that place
to spread your wings, and call your own. Now away from home.
You make the rules. Now you are in the money, you have
scraped and saved, to make you house the way,
you have dreamed.
There comes a time in your life, when you find out, there
are other dreams in your life, when one becomes a wife.
So, when you share you dreams together.
Your house, now becomes a home. Maybe better than
the one you left.
Take it all one step at a time, just like when, you was born.
It starts all over again.

valerie_891
this stuff WILL happen, and you'll find the right job for you to make all of it happen. if you are gifted and multi-talented there's going to be a bright future ahead of u.

Nirvash
well you go into debt...and then you spend the rest of your life trying to get out...then you die
Well it's better you hear it from me than someone else..I used to have the same concerns.
You have to start with getting a job and going to school at the same time..you'll need the job to pay for your car, apartment, food, electricity, and water...oh yeah and gas for your car....then when you graduate college with your degree or just a little before, you want to start looking for a job you can spend the rest of your life at...then when you find that job you buy a house at or near the location of your new job...or if your not sure you want to make that kind of commitment yet then just rent an apartment.......either way things tend to work themselves out...just don't spend too much time procrastinating...like other slackers who can't even spell college

kieee
You don't HAVE to buy a house, you can rent a house or an apartment, it'd be much much cheaper. And you can get a used car for less money, as well.
