Marriage between first cousins is legal in all European countries and in 26 states in the US.
Contrary to what the others have said, there is actually not such a huge risk in having children with birth defects as compared to not-related couples (36 per 1,000 : 15 per 1,000 births, 95% confidence interval). So first cousins have a over 94% chance of having healthy children. Lets not forget, a lot of people have diseases passed down the family with much greater likelyhood: that doesn't seem to stop them from marrying and having children. Why is that not disgusting? Personally, if I wanted to be with my cousin I just might decide not to have children.
But isn't it strange that the only thing anybody thinks about is potential children? How about if your cousins aren't planning on children? Is it still awful then?
Leave them be. They are hurting noone. |

I'm not religious at all, I just think it's kinda disgusting. :- I mean, they couldn't even have a kid because it would come out a mongoloid. It's just not "natural" and they'll get alot of negative reactions when they go around bragging about it. |

As long as they don't have children (as other before me have stated, the offspring may have defects), I see no harm in it. Something I would do? No. But hey, if they're in love, fine. It's their business. And besides, trying to convince them that what they're doing is wrong will probably have the opposite effect. |

First cousins are illegal because of the same reasons brothers and sisters and daughters and fathers and mothers and sons are, they are too close genetically, even if it doesn't kind of gross you out morally. There is no one closer to you genetically than a brother or sister. If they each have a kid and those kids have kids (together) its not much different then if they had kids together.
Not that anyone really needs to be having kids right now.
I bet your cousins are either in Utah, Georgia , or New Jersey. |

I think that is is actaully pretty gross. I think it is immoral and wrong. There seems like there would be some serious issues there. I hope that they never have children for their sake. |
