You can go to Wal-Mart or Target or an office supply store and buy a counterfeit detector pen. |

Contrary to what some people here have suggested, you have no legal duty to report a suspected counterfeit bill. Simply put, you are not in the business of screening currency. That is the job of the Federal Reserve Bank and to some extent, your private bank. They have a whole system for routinely screening and renewing the cash reserves.
Even if you had a very strong indication, or even if you knew 99% that it was fake, you wouldn't get in trouble for spending it unless they could prove that you KNEW 100% that it was fake and then failed to act on that knowledge.
It's only $20 and it is probably just an old bill. Just go spend it unless there is something here you aren't telling us. |

You're supposed to turn it in to a bank for them to see. They sell markers that will change colors when marked on if it is fake. I'd do that first. Honestly I'd try to spend it so I didn't loose the money :) |

i would forget about it. A fake 20? why bother making a fake 20 when you can make a fake 100? It probably is just an old 20. They have changed so much over the past that its hard to tell if you have two of the same kind. I would just keep it, spend it, and move on. 20 isn't a big deal.
Now if you got it by some illegal thing, or maybe the person you got it from got it from an illegal thing, then maybe you want to just talk to a local law inforcement, but other than that i would let it go and think about how many cookies you can buy with it. :) |

I would take it to the bank. They can tell you if it's an old bill or a fake. If it's a fake, you'll be out $20, but the bank can hand it over to the secret service for investigation. |

its true you can take it to the bank to find out but if it is fake your out 20 |

I would bring it to a bank and have them check to see whether or not it is real. Will you be out of $20? I don't know. If that is a real concern, just spend it! |

go to the bank and ask for a new one.Play dumb like you don't know it may or may not be fake.but don't go to your bank go to someone else's bank.Or trade it with a friend that would be pretty funny. |

With Canadian money (the new series, colored like a seizure or the older kind) all you need to check is a blacklight. Most money has a blacklight image or fibres that glow red when exposed to blacklight.
Also, there's the water test. Apply a drop of water to the bill's surface and if it bleeds like a stuck pig, you've got a fake |

No, you should immidetaly notify the the Dept. of treasurey or the Secret Service, If they catch you using it they will punish you for posing a federal money.
Be sure to send it to them and they will probabaly send you a new $20 with a new stripe right off the machine in Oregan.
Send it to them, dont use the money |
