What do you do with ripped £10 and £20 notes?
My son took it upon himself to rip to shreds £100 in notes. Can I take it to any bank to be exchanged over or do I have to take it to my bank? And will it cost me? Oh and do I have to sellotape it back together before taking it back to the bank?

Actually the value of the currency is dependant upon the watermark (the metal strip that runs through the banknote). As long it's intact, you can take that half of the note to the bank and have them change it - but if you tape them together you may save yourself a long discussion around legality - don't forget, the people on the till are paid £7.00 an hour and aren't going to know anything about currency law. Anti-money laundering rules state that they will have to credit your account with the cash first, but you can draw it out straight away.

i would just take it back to the bank how it is and see what they can do. usually the burn the ripped money and replace it with new notes.

cheekybear
You can take them to the bank as long as you put them back together. Make sure the serial numbers match on the front and back....pretend its a game...loads of fun!!

Good luck!

You can take it to any bank as far as i know, tape it back , as long you can read the serial numbers, they will accept it!

Marc S
Tape them back together, neatly.

Dr Asmed
you can just take them to the bank and get them replaced.

Yes,we have all had ripped notes by accident, just tape them back up and reuse them, happy taping.

Dan

yes you will have to sellotape them back together correctly. The numbered codes must also be 100% correct. I then beleive that they exchange the notes.

BARRY B
Sellotape. The Bank will change them, so long as the print is dry (joke).
