the very word barter means "Exchange".
In early days before currency was invented they used the Barter System.
To be more precise, I will expand it to this:
Barter is a type of trade where goods or services are exchanged for a certain amount of other goods and/or services; no money is involved in the transaction. It can be bilateral or multilateral as trade. It is a word frequently used as a synonym for 'negotiate/negotiation', but this usage is incorrect. A common form of barter during colonial times was tobacco. Also bushels of grain and wampum were popular forms. |

As a hair dresser I've bartered out a lot of things... I did hair services for a lady... that did my daughters wedding cake... also I lack $900.00 having enough money putting a new driveway... So, the guy doing it... took it all hair service for his wife and 3 daughters as a christmas gift... to me Bartering is swapping services for services... and you are suppose to pay income taxes on bartering.... |

I believe it means something like trade - but not using money. An Egyptian might barter (exchange) 3 camels for a ride down the Nile or maybe they would give their 2 children to the Pharoah as slaves in exchange for themselves not going into slavery. |

Postcards and printing
we had a 18FT X 20Ft banner made ON TRADE to go on a billboard

What we had done on trade
One member had his basement flooded and had mold everywhere
we came in and restored the basement ON TRADE he paid no cash..

It's a common mis-conception, but Barter DOES NOT mean to haggle. It means to trade, but is commonly associated with non-cash economies. For example, I might offer to swap three goats for that Cow. That would be a barter. I would be bartering my three goats. |
