But some people believe that your soul departs from the boby and depending on your good deeds and the amount you have sinned you get your share of good or bad fortune. I'll be ansewring this question from the Bible's standpoint, which in my own opinion is the most reasonable explanation I've come across.
According to the Bible at the bible book of Ecclesiastis chapter 9 verses 5,6 and 10 the dead are conscious of nothing at all. So after death, there is no more life. It is simply a state of nonexistence. This agrees with the condition of a person before his birth which is that of nonexistence.
Furthermore, the bible book of Job chapter 3 verses 13 compares the condition of the dead to sleep implying unconsciousness inasmuch as we are not conscious of happenings in our environment when we are asleep.
No wonder Jesus Christ while on earth at the bible book of John chapter 11 verse 11 referred to his dead friend Lazarus as resting and sleeping.
So the Bible's explanation of what happens after death is simple and straightforward namely: there is no life after death.
However, the Bible also shows that there is hope of a return to life from death of those who have died. This the bible refers to as the ressurrection. Jesus Christ said so at the bible book of John chapter 5 verses 28, 29 that a time is coming in which all those in the tombs will be ressurrected. This hope of ressurrection is found throughout the bible.
I personally found this hope encouraging and fortifying when I lost my mom sometime ago.

It really depends on your spiritual viewpoint, or lack of one. Some believe in reincarnation, some that you become a god, some in a deep sleep (soul-sleep), some in nothingness, nirvana, etc. I believe in the God of the Bible and that if you have truly asked Jesus Christ to come into your life and to be the Savior of your soul, if you truly repent of your sins....I believe that you go to be with the Lord in heaven. If you don't, you, sadly, go the other way. |

if you are a bible reader and believes in the existence of a creator, you will surely find the answer. i forgot what particular verse is it but i am sure death is a state of being unconscious of anything. to dust we shall return and the spirit that was given to us will be taken back. it states further that our consciousness will be brought back during the resurrection period wherein all the dead will be brought back to life to undergo judgment. |
