After one or two 'red' reminders, you will be contacted as to how best to pay the bill.
The best way forward is to ring them and explain you can't pay because you cannot afford it.
They will then discuss repayment plans to help you pay what you owe, and they might suggest the fitting of a pay per use (card/token) meter to help you manage the payments.
They don't automatically cut you off these days, though it doesn't stop that from happening in the end... |

Depends on how many reminders and how far past due. Usually if you have a RED PAST DUE. There is a date on the RED PAST DUE bill that will tell you what date your power will be shut off.
On that date, say bye bye to your Tivo. |

They usually send out a past due notice with a due date on it! If not paid by that due date...they will turn your power off!!! usually you have to be 2 weeks late!! |

If you don't do anything they will shut it off. Have you called and tried to work out a payment schedule? If you just call them and let them know that you are having a hard time this month then there is a good possibility they will work something out with you. |

They turn off your supply until you make payment. You can ring them and arrange to make payment through a meter, you'll get a card and you top up the card put it in your meter and the debt goes down slowly. You don't have to have a debt to get a meter, I have one and prefer it to monthly bills, by the middle of the summer I often have the electricity company owing me money which you can either ask them to send you a cheque or keep it on your meter to cover you in the winter months. (Same goes for Gas too) |

go to a local agency of assistance for help, and then if they cant help you they will issue you a denial letter which then in turn you will take to a local community agency like Salvation Army for help with a one time payment,, do it before you are shut off, but in shut off status.. Beth:) I know thats my job and part of it .. shut offs.. |

they wont cut you off straight away. they will write to you again with a warning that they will disconnect you. try to pay something at least - even a small amount will show you are trying - they should help you. |

Well, said Alberto

You get a black reminder, then they cut you off. When they reconnect you, you will have to pay an extra reconnection charge & will have to pay in future by direct debit.
If you have problems paying, call them: they will be happy to come to some arrangement. |

What a sweetly naive question!! You are a doll, aren't you?
Well, how do you like candle light? Heating your water over an open fire?
We all pay, you must pay too. No the red reminder isn't a Christmas card lovey. They are going to cut your power!! |

Usually they just come cut it off. And then they charge you an extra amount for turning it back on. I had that happen to me when I got a bill mix up (their fault.) That SUCKED. |

reply is exactly what they are going to do. |

That would depend on the circumstances. I believe if you have children under a certain age they can't cut you off so they have to put in a payment meter. If you are having trouble paying give them a call and see what help they can offer. It's surprising how amenable people can be if they know what's going on. |

You will be cut off. |

In my experience the only way they are able to cut off your electricity is if they have access to your home.
They will send you a letter stating that they will be getting a court order to enter your house to cut off your electricity. but before you receive this they will send you around 3 reminder letters and a few threatening letters letting you know that they will be contacting the repo man to take your furniture as payment for the bill and also a court summons which they will make you pay for....
......but in my experience of this from living in a student house where my house m8s preferred spending money on booze rather than bills...we received TONS of reminder, court summons and repossession letters, which went on for a least 4-5 months and our electricity never got cut off and no one ever knocked at our door for our arrest or furniture.
But if you are having problems paying the bill then there should be a number at the back of the bill which you should phone and they would suggest alternative ways and times to pay. |

Depending on where you live, here might be a law in place to protect you from having the electricity cut during the winter months.
The amount still is owed, however, and eventually your service will be cut. Don't forget that outstanding debts can also be reported to credit bureaus, and affect your ability to get credit in the future. |

Of course they will cut their service if after a disconnection notice you dont pay the bill. So you better pay it before the disconnection cut-off date. |

Lights out my friend. Thats what the reminder is for. If ya dont pay, ya dont receive the service. Do ya have friend that could loan ya the money, if not you should seek out utility assistance in your area. Like the Red Cross or call your electric company to see what your optioms are. Good luck and stay warm |
