One Step Ahead

If you put a returned address it will be returned to you--postage due. If there is no return address two things can happen; it will go the dead end pile or the other person will have to pay. If it going to a company they will not pay the postage due. |

We no longer have a policy of "postage due" in the US. Rather, a letter will be returned to sender marked "return to sender, insufficient postage".
Good reason to always put your return address on the envelope. |

the reciever will get a note attached to the letter stating that the postage is unpaid and an invoice to pay it. They will then get on your tail as to why you sent them a letter without paying postage and wanting their money back. |

They send it back with a stamp in red ink up where the stamp is.
Sometimes experience isn't all it's cracked up to be. |

The person the other end pays for it, more than a stamp would cost as well! |

It will either come back to you or the other person has to go to the post office and pay it. |

The recipient gets a card through their door saying a letter requiring additional postage costs is waiting for them at their local depot. They can either take the card and payment to the depot and collect or pay online and it'll get delivered to them. |

It gets returned to the return address that you put on the upper right corner of the envelope. Unless one of the postal workers sees the mistake and decides to pay for the additional postage out of their own pocket, which happens sometimes. |
