It depends what type of contract a store has with a manufacturer/distributor. Most often the items are marked down until they are sold, put into storage until the next year, transferred to discount stores owned by the same company, or donated to charity. Sometimes a store is able to send items back to the distributor for a credit towards future purchases. |

First they are discounted by large percentages .Then if they still don't sell they are sold to a discounter in large lots. Sometimes they are donated to the poor... |

Some are donater,destroyed but a lot go to surplus stores stores or rent a cevter rip off stores to be rented for high prices,Rental apts buy so,e things in lots and so do nursing homes because they get discarded after a short time |

Seasonal items often get clearence out to riduculous, extremely prices to the point that items that are worth 50 bucks are often sold for just cents and change. Trendy items are often sold clearance also, but sometimes sent back and set out for next year. Also, they sometimes send in to outlet stores and other department stores but just label them differently. That's why the smart people shop at Walmart and its looks like I shop at Macy's or Nordstrom!!!!LOL |

after the clearance sale, after sale, they sell them to
discount stores like tj maxx and marshalls. |

The most common reason for end of the year sales is that stores have to pay tax on the value of their inventory at the end of their fiscal year. So instead of paying taxes on their inventory they try to sell it first. So, they don't throw out, recycle, or give to charity everything that they haven't sold at then end of the year. |
