You can rent a po box at a post office...
All that is, is simply a postal address to which your mail is sent. It is therefore relatively anonymous. You dont really get a post box, they simply keep your mail in a pigeon-hole. Every now and then you simply pop to the post office where you are registered and collect your mail. |

It's a mail box that is located in the Post Office. Shady companies often use it when they don't have a real office location or if they move a lot. They are alos good if you just want to be discreet but you have to go to the post office and stand in line to check it. |

Same as the other answers a dedicated box at the post office.
At home in the UK I knew a few busnisses that used to do that. Here in the States, I now have to do it as well, but it is because I live in a rural area and they do not deliver the mail, so we have no choice. |

A Post Office (PO) box is a uniquely-addressable lockable box located on the premises of a Post Office station.
In many countries, including many countries in Africa and the Middle East, there is no delivery of mail to street addresses, and renting a PO Box is the only way to receive mail. In some rural areas of countries like the United States, Canada, and Australia, mail is not delivered so the rentals are often discounted or free.
Generally, Post Office boxes are rented from the post office either by individuals or by businesses on a basis ranging from monthly to annual, and the cost of rent varies depending on the box size. CBD PO boxes are usually more expensive than a rural PO Box.
In the US, the rental rate used to be uniform across the country. Now, however, a postal facility can be in any of seven fee groups by location; in addition, certain customers qualify for free box rental. |

It's a post office box - like a letter box but at the post office, so you have to go there to collect your letters. Some businesses prefer to do it this way, and people who are on the run!!! |

Post Office Box -- they're the mailboxes typically at the Post Office or in Rural Areas at the grocery store or another central location. People pay a monthly fee to rent a post office box and they have their mail delivered to that location. |

It's a Post Office Box, but often isn't actually a 'box' it's basically an address where post is delivered and stored for you to collect, or in some cases they will deliver it for a charge. Useful where you don't want loads of mail delivered to your door, or for businesses, In some firms orders will go to one PO Box, payments to another etc, saves on sorting. Some dodgy firms use boxes as well, then there can be no comeback on the owner if there are problems, as the box provider doesn't always have a genuine address of the hirer. |

You can go to any US post office & request one. They have different sizes; I have a basic (small) one. I pay $20 every 6 months for it. You essentially are renting a place for the US post to deposit your mail.
It's great for ppl who may travel a bit, to have their mail collect in a secure location. Pilots & flight attendants use them often. I live in a place with many residents & want to insure that I get my mail, & that it doesn't get "misplaced".
Also, in some rural areas, they use them because the houses are spread so far apart. Plus the house itself may be over 500 feet back from the street. |

it's a post office box. back home they are common for a few reasons, people usually subscibe to one which is convenient to where they shop ,live or work. they have their key to unlock the box to collect the post. this can be a safer way to receive mail as post boxes are often free standing outside one's residence, which makes it easy for people to mess with the post. reason for not having mail delivered through the door is that many properties have extensive security measures keeping people out the yard, such as walls ,fences and guard dogs. |

It stands for Post Office box. Many individuals opt to have a PO Box vs having mail delivered to their home for what ever reason. In some areas in the US like the high countryof Colorado, it's the only way you can get mail because there is no mail delivery. A PO Box is for United States Postal Delivery only so don't try to send FedEx, UPS, etc. packages to a PO Box. |
