What is a great job for 13 year old boys?
What is a great way to make extra money for a regular 13 year old boy? It should be year round and not a regular job like baby-sitting and dog-walking...ect. Something like maybe tutoring or whatever! It is hard to walk up to someone's door and say, "Can I work for you?" Just give me some good ideas and no nast remarks please.

when i was 13 i went around the neighborhood asking people could I rake their yards and cut their grass. I still am good friends with many of those people, and I am almost 30 now.

cameragirl90210
Technically you can't get a job at like the local supermarket because of child labor laws. Unfotunately, that leaves dog walking/paper boy/lawn mowing. Tutoring is a good alternative. If you're a good swimmer some pools allow lifeguards that are 13. Post signs around the neighborhood asking for odd jobs.

hmm i bet you've already heard about paper rounds and errand boy things..

if you have a skill, for example your good at drawing you could do commissions for people.

and it's not yearly but occasionally doing jobs around the house never hurts :) vaccuming, cleaning, your parents'll appreciate it and you might always get a little extra for that!

i used to buy sweets and sell them for a higher price at school, because everyone was gagging for them..

try not to do anything that you'll get in trouble for though!

and also ask around in close friends and family, they could recommend you if someones looking for someone to hire for part time work, my friend worked at a farm for a week and got £60 for it. (around $30 dollars i think)

those are just a couple of things i thought up off the top of my head :)

it's hard to get people to trust you when you're 13...esp with their kids or dog...and im not sure how much you can tutor at the age of 13 as well...your best bet...get someone you know - like a family memeber or close family friend or neighbor to hire your for few hours a week at their business. that way you will have some experience when it becomes legal for you to work on the books...or try to offer your services like gathering leaves, shoveling the driveway, painting the fence etc. something that you cant hurt yourself with cause that's another thing people are afraid of...getting sued if you hurt urself. good luck!

This isn't going to be your favourite answer at all, but it's funny you asked that because my brother is 13 (almost 14) and has recently been annoying the entire family about how to make more money! haha.
Anyways, we searched the internet and everything and unfortunately there's nothing that good for kids under the age of 15 or so. I'm not sure what type of area you live in (or technically what climate you live in!) but options were things like raking leaves, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, or maybe even cleaning pools or something. That would take you through a bunch of months of the year. Depends what area you live in though, problem in my area is that everyone hires a company to do the snowplowing and mowing the lawn and everything but maybe it would be different in your area? Maybe? I know, semi-useless answer. Bug your parents for an allowance explaining there's no way to get more money at your age!

bradandron
Something like tutoring you say? Come of it they are 13 !!!!

Create flyers in the summer for lawn mowing, the fall for leaf raking, the winter for snow shoveling, and the spring for flower-planting. Roll them up and put them on the mailboxes in your neighborhood. You could get a daily paper route or one of those town-weeklys. I thnk you are old enough to be a bag boy at a grocery store, but not 100% sure.

Dog walking is a good idea. You could create a flyer and put in on the doors of the houses where there are dogs. Also, you could post an ad in your local newspaper. Speaking of newspapers, you could get a paper route. Sell things on ebay. You can find items to sell at garage sales. To sell on ebay, you will need a credit card so ask your parents for a prepaid card with a little bit of start up cash.

Sam
why do you want to work......i wanted to work around your age and now i am 18 and i dont like working so its good to be free of work.

I'm not sure about the legal age for working, but if you can't do chores for your parents or something for family, then maybe McDonalds or something.

Hey, I don't know if you live in a city or what but at your age I worked at a stable taking care of horses and the pay was pretty good for a kid my age. I also baby sat but you already knocked that off your list. A few other people have givin some great idea for work, paper route, mowing lawns, washing cars, if there are any older residents in the neighborhood that need help around the house or grocery shopping, etc,......If you can think it, there is a job and money to be made! good luck

opalelise
My 15 year-old brother makes money around the house with extra jobs above and beyond his chores (e.g. vacuuming out and washing the car, raking leaves, etc.). While it’s hard to walk up to a neighbor’s door to see if they have odd jobs, it’s great practice for the job interviews you’ll have later in life. If you have your parent’s permission, you could make signs/announcements to leave on neighbor’s doors. Make sure to include your name, phone number, e-mail address, and jobs that you’re able to do.

I got my brother the book in the link below; check to see if your library has a copy.

You can sell things on ebay, many people are making thousands of dollars every month just by selling some of their junk. you can also make some flyers and ask your neighbors if you could take out their trash for a monthly charge. (You can use this one year-round). If you go to school you can sell kids candy or other things kids might enjoy.

honestly, most store jobs dont like to hire people until they are 14-18 years old, usally, 14 is the yougest age you can get a job, but thats even really hard. it depends where you live and whats around you. sorry i couldnt really answer your question...

i started out in life working as a paper delivery boy. i took on several routes, and completed them before and after school. for a real job, with the child labor laws, it's hard to find something at 13. but if you do this for a little while, you'll earn some money, and before you know it, you can move on to washing dishes at the local diner part time, or something that does not go against child labor. good luck
