My colleague - sounds like you work together then. |

Why would you have to underline the fact that they are your "subordinate"?? I always refer to people as colleagues, regardless of status. |

It is widely accepted practice to refer to other workers as colleagues.
Terms like subordinate are seen as old fashioned and abusive.
There is no need to confirm a hierarchical structure by using unpleasant terms. The companies policies and procedures lay down company rules and its modus operandi.
I should also add that the term 'my staff' is also inappropriate unless you own the company. |

colleague? don't think you have to be on equal-footing to use this...do you? other than that i would agree with 'assistant' |

You could try my colleagues, my junior colleagues, my team members, my staff, company employees, my employees, there are more, but I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Hope this helps. |

Hey Hey MaMa

It's a good question. I believe that "staff" is an acceptable term. It's simple and without defining job hierarchy. You could go to "team" but to me, it's pandering...
Good luck. |

Perhaps you should think about what you would be happy for them to call you in the third person as one of their managers as well...
To keep it fair I would go for 'colleagues' - its what I always refer to the senior people that I work with when addressing them collectively and as is equally how I would address those that are in similar positions to me. |
