What is considered good work ethic?

Arriving early, staying late, helping co-workers, doing work that is NOT required

OiVey
Doing what is expected of you while you are there. Being on time and only taking sick days when you are really sick. Skiing is not an illness ;) If there is a problem, a good worker will bring it to the attention of the appropriate people. Keeping your work area neat and clean.

My man has a very good work ethic. He is always on time and will stay longer if they need him to do so. He takes off if he is ill, because making others sick at work, is not helpful to an employer. He does the jobs, even the dirty messy ones like cleaning the bathroom, without complaining. It's just part of the job. He will let them know if the lights in the parkinglot need replacing, or suggest a method for doing something more efficiently.

I think it's doing what you're paid to do and not goofing off on company time. If you arrive early and stay late it seems to me like you're overdoing it.

Always get to work on time. Apologize for being late. If your suppose to work as a team, then do that, and don't take credit, for what others have done. Dress neatly, for your job,and if your required to wear a uniform, keep it clean and pressed. Be sure your personal appearance is neat. Ask questions, when you dought something. Be polite to your co-workers,regardless of the situation, and don't let anyone ruin your day. Always speak to your boss, before he/she speaks to you,and smile. Never show your boss nervousness. Keep your work area, and lunch areas clean. Don't get involved in your co-worker's personal lives. Don't use profanity, and ethnic slurs. (PS) I can go on,but I think you've got it! Your going to do just fine. (smile)

Just follow me around for one night.. But realistically giving 87% is the accepted standard that companies use to evaluate employees as good workers. Of course what 87% is, is at sole discretion of the time keeper.

Coming to work early, obeying every tom, dick, and harry in the business and on top of that doing the thing you think is best for u, your boss, and the entire organisation.

Do what you know is right. Always try to be the better bigger person. On time, over time, and positive attitude no matter how awful it can get.

Depends...
Maybe you just need to be staying busy, or
Maybe it's about things like
Iniative,
Great attitude,
Pleasure in what you're accomplishing,
Willingness to take on further responsibilities,
Some kind of belief in what you're doing,
etc.
ok so it can be frequently difficult to give a sh*t about whatever crappy task you're doing for whatever bozo is making more money than you...
but
whatever you're doing, no matter how mundane or
repetitive or
dirty or
crappy/basically retarded,
it is still one of the necessary steps in your day. When performed properly, it will be one more thing done well and just another chunk of good day.

johnkmayer
a good work ethic is doing a days work for a days pay, it is doing the right thing at work simply because it is the right thing to do, it's about going the extra mile, it's about being the person who is sought out when the chips are down...it's all of these things

sex and drugs at work, thats what my managers say.

I would think this is a perception thing more than a definition. I've been told that one who has a good work ethic is one who has the willingness to do what it takes to get the job done while meeting expectations with regards to budget, time and quality.
