Schizophrenia with psychotic features....
Schizophrnenia is characterized by auditory or visual hallucinations. The first "psychotic break" (the first time this suddenly happens to the individual) is usually in the early 20's (but not always). Dissociative disorder seems to play a part in this, possibly. This is the disorder that includes multiple personlity disorder. It is possible to have schizophrenia with dissociative traits. If these symptoms are really real, then I would say that these are the problems. |

It's still called multiple personality disorder. The proper psychological term for it has been changed to "dissociative identity disorder" (DID). However, it's very rare. When DID became publicized through the media, many more cases came up of DID. Many people fake it or just make themselves believe they have it due to watching movies about it or hearing about it. Maybe your friend is faking it (i.e. malingering). Ask her to see a counselor or a psychotherapist. Usually they do some psychoanalytical stuff or some cognitive behavior therapy (if there's really a disorder). If not, they can probably tell if she's malingering. |
