What is it like to be poor?
I honestly don't know.

I've often wondered what being poor was like, so I asked some of my employees. Everyone pretty much said it was awful.

Besides the fact that this is probaby a phish.

Everything is relative. I'm poor next to Bill Gates.

Snif, ok I'm over it now.

There are no truely poor americans only haves and have mores.

In general the poorer you are the less stuf you have to worry about, the closer you are to the earth, the more fun you have measured in hours a day. Go too poor though and your fundamental needs are not met and the blank hits the wall, people get desparate hunting for food. Really you have to guage your definition of poor when you look at the starving millions in africa.

Depends on what kind of poor you are speaking of.... A person with very little money can be rich in love and spirit. Which is far more important than the balance in their bank account.

sad cant realy do anything but i am not poor

I wont say that i am poor but have had plenty of struggles financially in life.. and it is a very discouraging feeling when faced with that reality of having next to nothing. When the time comes for a break in the cycle and things get a tad better you really appreciate it.

We were poor when I was a kid and it sucked. I say this not so much for me, but because of the strain that it put on my mother (my father left when I was about 4). My mother had a very hard time with it because she wanted to do things for us and couldn't. My mother always worked very, very hard, but it was just hard raising 5 boys with absolutely no help from my father. The strain was just too much for her to bare and I think contributed to her early death 2 years ago at the age of only 63. I remember when I was just 4 waking up and hearing her crying because she could not provide for us. I never cared about material things, it just broke my heart to know how badly she hurt. She was a good woman and I think about her and miss her everyday. And you give you an example there were many times that all we had between the 6 of us for dinner was a single box of mac and cheese.

Depends on what you mean by poor. The amount of material possession one has is often totally unrelated to how happy they are. I have seen people with so little as to make the poor of the 1st world look rich, yet these people seemed to be just as happy, if not more so than the "rich" of the 1st world. I don't have much money now, but I am extremely happy with the way my life was going. If I had a lot of material wealth I would not be happier, but would rather feel guilty for having silly luxuries when people are starving and suffering elsewhere in the world. As long as you can afford the basics of life, food, shelter, medicine, etc., you don't need excess material wealth. In fact the more you have, the more you have to worry about your possessions, and the more isolated you can become from others. To answer your question, as long as you can afford the basic necessities of life, being poor is a lot like being rich, except you don't have as much stress.

There are more ways to be poor than to just not have money. I live on a very strict budget, but I'm not poor. I think the worst way to be poor would be to have all the money in the world and not have friends, family, God, love; all the great things that make my world go around. I'm sure some poor people are way more happy than rich.

The Difference Between Rich/Poor People?

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son. "So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of ourgarden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them." The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are. "Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends! "Life is too short and friends are too few."

Being poor is not that bad. It teaches you to appreciate the things you have and get. For Example: Going to a restaurant to you probably isn't that much of a big deal. To my family, it's AWESOME. Peace Out
