King Solomon chose wisdom as a special gift from God, when he became King. The Bible tells us to seek wisdom, and she will be found, and also that every good and perfect gift comes from God, and that knowing God is the beginning of wisdom. It's knowing how to get along in life, what's the right way and the wrong way in most things, not from what you've read or been told but from having lived through it. Wisdom is tied to experience, which is why those who have it tend to be older. "Older but wiser" usually means "learned from my mistakes."
Of course, sometimes older just means "more stubbornly set in my ways." You'll find people with wisdom not taking too many things seriously, having more tolerance and understanding. They're much more likely to smile with compassion than to condemn with righteousness. They don't have egos or points of view that need defending. |
