I do it all the time when I am work, I have to because I am secretary, I am the phone with a patient, writing their insurance information down, their dental corcerns or needs, etc, also while typing the information in the computer. |

Multi tasking is about doing different things at the same exact time for example if you work in an office, you might be typing a letter for your boss and answering the office phone at the same time or you could be in the process of faxing a document while answering a question for someone or looking for something for you boss in the roladex on your desk. |

Multi-tasking IS doing different things but not at the same exact time but the same range of time. For example if you are on the phone while you wash your clothes you have been on the phone but you have done your laundry. A little strange question, isn't it. You don't need to know what multi-tasking is just do it? lol

I also shower, brush my teeth and shave simultaneously.
So multi-tasking IS doing different things at the same time. |

As it implies, doing multiple tasks at the same span of time. Example of multi-tasking would that you have 1 hour before you leave your home. But you have to do different chores like burn a cd, finish your home work and call a friend. Instead of just taking 20 mins to do each task at a time. You do them all at the same time. You call your friend. You put a blank cd in your cd burner. And while all this is happening at the same time you start your home work. That's multi-tasking. |

Think of it as being able to handle multiple responsibilities without "dropping the ball". For example, three coworkers might ask you to do three different things by the end of the day, and you have to be able to prioritize your tasks and not lose track of them. Some people do not have the attention span or focus to multi-task.
I used to think that was strange for employers to explicitly ask for "good writing and communications skills", but I've learned to my surprise that a lot of people have trouble composing a coherent and grammatically correct paragraph. |
