The best way is to try to prevent it. Wash your hands and keep them out of your mouth. Most germs are spread with your hands. Gargle with antiseptic mouth wash several times a day also helps. CottonPatch |

It will go away in 7 seven days if you take medication and a week otherwise. Colds come and go and is a natural process and its normal if we get colds 3-4 times in a year. We take medications not to get other complications. Drink a lot of fluids and hot foods. |

I agree with those about prevention.
Also, eventhough colds are caused by a virus, your body's immune system usually can combat it in various ways.
So, develop a strong immune system.
I recommend keeping it simple and balanced. Get regular physical exercise to keep your body healthy. Regular meditation (mental exercise) can help your mind/attitude, which in turn would help your body/immune system. Your mind and body are intimately linked, so keep it balanced. This falls under prevention again. |

well lets get down to the nitty gritty.
i had a bad cold and it happened like 2 months ago.
my suggestion is this and it will work.
if its a sore throat and running nose get some over the counter claratin or loratadine.
start drinking orange juice plenty of it. drink the whole carton. buy at least 5 of them for the week.
drink plenty of liquids. drink water get some rest.
if u have breathing problems rub some nasal rub on your neck back etc.
make some tea the regular brand at the store or the cheap brand.
add lemon juice buy it and put it in there and honey it will help u.
next thing eat food and chicken soup.
take a hot bath. wrap your body after wear a sweater as well.
keep warm.
u must eat and drink plenty of liquids and have soup on hand. eat some vegetables.
if u sore throat is bothering u buy some saline spay or make your own.
a little bit of goggle of salt and warm water to alleviate the sore throat.
buy an over the counter cold medicine something along the lines of tylenol cold and flu or alka seltzer flu fighter.
this will help.
relax and if u cant sleep try to watch a movie, keep windows closed. buy a humidifier to help alleviate the stuffing nose.
trust me u will be better after this. |

Go the natural way, it fights colds the quickest. Take raw garlic, and Vit C with plenty of water each day. Rest is key as well. If you follow that method for 2 times a day, you should kick it fully in 3 days. |

Unfortunately, colds are caused by viruses and cannot be stopped. (Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics.) Supposedly Zinc Gluconate can dramatically cut the duration of the common cold, but I do not know if that has been scientifically proven or not. You can buy Zinc Gluconate in may forms... nasal spray or gel, lozenges, lollipops, etc. at any drugstore. Otherwise, all you can do is take Sudafed or something just to treat the symptoms... get lots of rest and take vitamin C... and hope your body can fight it off soon. Good luck! |

Once a cold catches you, you are stuck with it for 7 to 10 days. Coriceden D always worked wonders for me in my younger days and still does. At night some blackberry brandy to help you relax, stop coughing and sleep. Hope this helps. |

Getting rid of anything requires the right state of mind. First, stay active, sweat will rid your body of impurities. Drink lots of lemon tea or hot water with lemon juice. Cough drops and cold meds are helpful, but are worthless if you just lie around and do nopthing.
Stick to soups with broth and garlic, spicy foods help too. But try to avoid dairy, red meat, and pasta.
If this is too much, just drink lemon tea, twice a day. Go for a walk in the morning, then get a good night's sleep. |

Upon the first symptoms of getting a cold, the itchy throat and runny nose, I take a dose of Airborne fizzy/effervescent tablet in water (available at Trader Joe's and at Costco). I also begin taking Vitamin C tablets along with lots of water.
If the post nasal drip remains, I take a Sudafed before going to bed to allow me a good night's sleep.
These steps minimize the discomfort due to my colds. Your mileage may vary! |
