Put your idea in an envelope and then send it to yourself through registered mail.This will prove the date that you came up with the idea.Obviously do not open the envelope though. |

here is an interesting story about ideas,I have a friend who is a programing genuis, he designed a computer program for the auto industry, copywrote and pattened the program and started approching big companys to purchase his product. when he presented the product to one piticular company he infored them any tampering with his product via their computer network would result in devastation to their system. well, they thought they could ''take'' his program and alter it to be theirs,but they seriously underestimated my friend and destroyed their entire computer network nationwide in their business. long story short,sued them and is a multi-millionaire now and owns part of that company.corporate greed is alive and growing every day. |

You could always draw up a contract & ask them to sign it before you disclose any details. Make sure the contract is legally binding & that it expresses your wishes that they do not disclose your idea or use it for their own gain at all. |

Copy all your design notes and take them to the bank, get a manager to read, countersign and date them then put them in a security box.
Then apply for the patent and take your idea to said company. |

This is tough. An idea, with no prototype, no patent, no funding, is just that--a twinkle in your eye. It will be impossible for you to determine whether this idea has ever been floated in the company before, possibly by an employee, especially if the idea is an offshoot of their current business model. And, if it isn't, they're probably not very interested.
I assume you want to approach them because you hope they will pay you for the idea. Pretty unlikely. Far better if you want to be hired to develop idea. For that, you need to have done your homework, and have a product development plan, complete with cost and revenue estimates. Then, you want to get hired by the highest level possible. Much easier to do this in a smaller company. That's where I've seen tremendous success with product ideas--as an insider, not as an outsider. |
