Basically, this neighbor always cranks up the volume on her stereo/TV/etc. in spite of the fact that the walls of the apartment building are paper thin. This neighbor makes way too much noise during the day, especially after 10:00 p.m. and doesn't stop until like 2 a.m.!! This is happening on a daily basis, and I'm exasperated. I have already filled out a complaint form, but so far nothing has happened. I'm sure I'm not the only person to go through this....:) |

First, try every legal option. Complain to the neighbor, Complain to landlord, get others to join your complaint, complain to police. If that fails become a vigilante, take care of it yourself! Here are some hints: A small, un noticeable hole drilled thru the wall or ceiling near the offending equipment. A garden sprayer with a hose small enough to fit the hole. Flood the equip. with water to short it out, or use a caustic liquid to destroy it. Of course, do this when nobody's home.
Or, if he has an outside electric panel box, short a 220 wire to his 110 , after several seconds everything on this circuit will be fried.
Or just constantly harass him in every possible way till he moves. Find his entrance water valve and turn it off when he is in the shower, find his cable entrance and connect it to 110 volts, fry his TV, maybe even his stereo. Do the same to his phone wire, fry his phone, comp. fax. and anything else connected to the phone system. When he's gone, pump enamel paint under his door, ruin his carpet. Have pizzas delivered over and over. Have UPS go to pick up non existant pkgs, same with Postal Priority Pick up.
If he has a car...get creative! All is fair in neighbor war!

I am having the same problem myself right now. The people that llive upstairs from me have a 2 yr.old that runs around at all times of the day and nite. He has some kind of toy with wheels that you hear going accross the kitchen floor at 8 , 9, 10 at nite or later and the parents scream and shout at each other and that baby. I video taped all the noise and took the tape to my apartment manager and she agrees with me that they are too noisy. She went on vacation this week but next week when she gets back she is going to tell them that we need to have a sit down with her to try and work this out. In fact they are up there now stomping around and being loud |

Well- first thing I would do is discuss it with him- tell him or her that you really like to sleep at 2 in the morning and that you can't with their music up really loud. If that doesn't work... go to the landlord- tell them your problem... if that doesn't work go to the police. There is always the quick answer though. My guess is if they are staying up to 2am blaring their music... they have to sleep some time right? So heres what you do--- find the most awful CD, record, tape or whatever of bagpipe music. Than... at 5:30am ... when they are in bed.. (you may want to warn your other neighbours.. because they wont be impressed with you)... when they are in bed.. at 5:30am.. .BLARE the bagpipe music- I guarantee that they will get the picture ... worked for me *shrugs shoulders* |

Fight fire with fire...turn up your stereo make noise then appologise to your neibour for the inconvieniance...the louder they get...the louder you get....its your game, try and get the other neibours involved doig the same thing. |

Go to the apartment building's owner, explain the problem and advise him or her that you want something done about it. If to no avail, go to the police. But expect some harsh feelings. I would try to better my life where I could move away from it !!!! |

Tell the lan lord, but make sure you make it clear that u want the complaint to be brought up to the noise maker anonmously. |

I would consider both short term and long term strategies for dealing with this very common problem for apartment dwellers. To keep from going crazy short term, get some of those foam earplugs that you roll up tightly and insert in your ears. That will allow you to get some sleep and they work good for similar problems when staying in hotels. Next, a good pair of wireless stereo/TV headphones can help too. I might start talking casually to your other neighbors to see what their experience has been. There's strength in numbers when it comes to dealing with your apartment managers. Your neighbor may be hard of hearing and needs to realize that she needs to get some of those wireless headphones I mentioned.
Sit down and write a one page letter addressed to your apartment administrative offices with a copy sent to her and other neighbors you may wish to send it to. Don't slip it under doors. Send it by certified mail to all recipients. I suggest you make sure to be polite and not lose your cool, because then you might be seen as the unreasonable party in all of this rather than your neighbor.
In the letter, you can suggest a lot of practical remedies that any reasonable neighbor would consider. Then you can reference that letter in future dealings with your problem. Of course, 15 months from now you will have moved to a better apartment and this will all be just another well earned experience for helping to decide future choices in life.

Well, I'd just try to be nice first. Ask nicely that they turn it down. Then turn up the heat, so to speak. Start asking around, then go to the apartment manager and file a complaint if nothing else helps. |

just ignore them :) this should save you from unnecessary fights and should also kill them (your neighbors) hehe...
there is only one exception! always stand for your right, for whats yours and for your family's dignity.... if they hurt you in this area, make sure you let them know wheir boundaries and let them know who they are dealing with. so this way they will think twise before bothering...or whatever. (no violence ofcourse) |

If you have tried talking to your neighbor and have talked to your landlord and you believe you have a legitimate complaint try calling the police the next time it's too loud! I only recommend this as a last resort because no one likes having the cops called on them! Remember you get more flies with honey! |

If he's up at 2am he's sleeping at like 9am. That's the perfect time to start an exercise program with a lot of jumping around and loud music. Or you could make him a nice breakfast and pound on his door to deliver it to him at that time (insist on eating with him). If you have to work at that time, I suggest putting some Barry Manilow or opera on your stereo to play while you are at work. |

continue to file the complaints with the landlord and keep a log for your records if you should have to move because of the neighbor you can sue your landlord if they don't provide remedy as for your neighbor use the kill him with kindness you will feel better in the long run it will take a while but it will work |

Sometimes there are situation which requires a miracle. It is not easy puting up with people who do not follow the 2nd Commendment of the Bible.
When there is a Problem ,you have two choice; first choice = you stay there and keep getting hit over the head with the Problem,2nd choice get out from under.
I would recommend the second choice. |
