The only way to stop them if they are breaking the law. From your comments, it sounds like they are breaking the law. I had bill collector call my house one day, and told my 17yr old son that he was going to start garnishing my paychecks. I advised my lawfirm(I'm a Prepaid Legal member) and they sent a letter to the bill collector threatening to counter-sue for telling my son confidential information and threatening to garnish my check against state laws. After the letter was sent, I never heard from them. If you would like more info.. let me know. |

There are rules to how much and when they can call you. Keep track of their calls and if they break the rules you can report them for harrassment and possibly get a deduction on your bills. Best way is to just pay the bills or pay as much of a payment as you can each month. |

Pay them. |

Pay the bills. You can normally offer them 10-15% and they will take it. |

1. change your number, and do not publish it.
2. block no name, no number on caller I.D.
3. pay the bills.
All the other answers are really good too! |

Tell them you don't live at this house and not to call back |

Be polite. Ask them to wait just one moment. inform them the conversation is being recorded. Advise them that demanding money with menaces is a criminal offence under any circumstances. Get their name first! Finally, firmly but politely say " Goodbye, have a nice day". |

Change your number or hang up. Or you could say that you are in the process of charging them with harrassment and tell them you have every call recorded and it is being investgated as we speak..always ask for thier name as well...Hope this is helpful I was in the same situation and I had my number changed to a non published number. Selective caller rejection, or selective caller acceptance. Bell South offers both. I'm sure the other phone companies offer something similar. |

Use a soundboard if youre in a good mood. Or answer, wait a few seconds, then hang up. |

I had this same problem. You have the right to tell them not to call you anymore. Tell them that you want all correspondance to be done through mail only! Make sure you write down the person's name you talk to and the date that you tell them this. You may get a few more calls, but after you tell them that they are NOT allowed to call you anymore. I went through the same thing, and the calls did stop. Just be firm and calm and if the calls continue, contact a lawyer. Good luck! I know this can be frustrating. |

Couple suggestions:
1. Make a police report for 'telephone harrassment'.
Call the phone company with the police report number. They used to change your phone number for free...but only one time.
2. Get 'privacy management' through your phone company.
It allows you to select the incoming calls. This will cost you more money each month and if you are having problems paying your bills...this might not be a good option.
3. You can have the phone company temporarily disconnect your phone...say if you are going out of town, etc. If you can...have them do it for about a week. This way if the collector calls everyday he will think you were disconnected. When you have it reconnected, have someone of the opposite sex record a message on your answering maching that will be heard "Hi, you've reached the Smith Family....". They will think the number was reassigned.
Always leave the answering machine on and hear who is calling before just picking up the phone. |

The next time they call you, get thier mailing address, never agree to pay them, you're being recorded. Hand write a letter to the collection agency stating that you refuse to pay this debt and to cease further communications with respect to such debt. Send it certified mail. After they have recieved your letter they are allowed to contact you once more to advise you that they are terminating their efforts to collect. This is called a Cease and Desist Letter;Title 15 of the United States Code, section 1692(c). If they continue to contact you, report them to Attorney Generals office in your state. Be aware this do not get rid of you debt. |

I was once a bill collector (hey, I hadda feed my kids). I was never rude to anyone, and actually gave them credit advice and ideas on how to find work if they said they were unemployed. But the answer to your question is, if you say you're recording the call, they will ask you to stop, and if you don't, they are supposed to warn you that they will terminate the call, then they hang up. If you do that a few times, they will probably stop if it's a reputable company. Not all of them are, unfortunately. |

Tell them to stop calling, and hang up. If they don't, contact your local phone comp. and police and file a report for harassment. |

I had one a$*hole call me and start screaming at me and my husband. He said my husband wasn't a man and all kind of crap. He said he was going to get him kicked out of the military and everything. I told him he was a loser and to never call my house again or I would file harassment charges against him and the company. He never did call after that. It pissed me off too, and the check was in the mail too. Losers! |

You can tell them to no longer contact you, and that if they do you will report them for harassment. |

Fake a foreign accent, and that you can't understand what they're saying.
Screen all of your calls with an answering machine.
Get caller ID with call blocking.
Buy a whoopee cushion, keep it near the phone, and when they call, push the phone into the cushion.
Turn it into phone sex. Ask what he/she is wearing, and then after it gets really hot, start a tape recorder, then sue them for making an obscene phone call to you. This way YOU collect instead of them. |
