It depends on your age and your skills, as well as what services are in demand.
If you're of legal working age, then you should be able to tap into people who are local to you, in order to help them with their lives. Things you can do depend to some extent upon the season and weather, such as gardening etc.
Your target market could be people at home who may need some help, or otherwise local businesses.
Home stuff - cleaning, ironing, clothes washing, running errands, minor repairs, gardening (including weekly lawn mowing etc) or mowing if people are on holidays, shopping, house minding, dog walking, car washing, window washing - typically if they have no regular window cleaner. Some people such as the elderly, may have more need of some types of help.
With home visits, be prepared to show some identification, as many people are wary of cold callers, scam artists and thieves. It could pay to deliver some leaflets in advance of calling, so that people have some familiarisation with you -take along your leaflet when you call again. And add a phone number to your leaflets / small shop card displays, so that people can get hold of you.
Businesses could be a source of you running out for their lunches etc, or some odd jobs that you could help with. Otherwise, you could possibly network your services of home jobs, via some friendly businesses - especially where friends and family work etc.
Remember, if you are interested in certain things, or have any talent and skills, then these could have a value to many people. Otherwise, just be prepared for some graft, to bring in some money. Offer something to any customers who recommend you to their friends etc, a gift or free service of some sort are good ideas.
Be sure that you are not vulnerable, and that adults know where you are too. Avoid anything dodgy or illegal.
Hope these thoughts help. Good luck! Rob |
