What is the best way to price your things at a yard sale?

I think most people like garage/yard sales so much because they feel like they can bargain with you about price. People like to haggle and feel like they got a good deal.

I think not putting a price on the items will leave you to have more options. The people will then have to speak to you about the item instead of just browseing quickly and thinking "oh thats too high" and heading back to the car without a word. Engaging them in conversation is a good sales technique. You can ask them what they were wanting to pay. You might be surprised that they will pay more than you would have priced it.

Its hard to know what people will pay and different classes of people will pay different amonts. By not putting prices out and deciding at the moment you give yourself more freedom and possibly more buyers.

at least 50% of your price depends on the neighborhood you are in.

Usually cheap is the way to go, especially if your main goal is just getting rid of stuff.

However, I think there comes a point where the time and labor one puts into having a yard/garage sale becomes more than the benefit recieved from it.

whatever you would be willing to pay, or if you really dont want it to stay with you put it in a box of free "stuff"

Visit other yard sales in your area to get an idea of the going rates. It depends on the neighborhood and the quality of your goods and the amount of trafic you might expect.

Look at the leading brand values, lower it by around 30-40%, This is a proven method.

Take your time look at real good to see what condition it is in and ask question.

Shay
You can base it on age, condition, and what it costs new. For example if you paid $50 for a cordless phone 5 years ago, and now you can get them as cheap as $15, putting a $5 price on it is probably as good as it gets.

Coffe Mugs - 50 cents, Old clothes - $2-$5, Electric Guitar - $50, Trinkets and junk 25 cents - $4, Old furniture you might want to hold on to just in case it's antique, but otherwise $10-$25. That should cover it!
