My first step - go to your States website, choose small business, and get all the guides, forms, and info available. It tells you step by step what kind of business you are (inc., corp., private, etc.), what the laws are, and what has to be done to register your ficticious name, etc.
Then, you need to do a lot of paperwork. |

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

well since you have the money the first step is deciding what type of business you want to go into. I suggest something that is link with your own personal interest that way you will have knowledge about it and do some reach into it for demand. Then you have to pick the correct location where you can target the most customers (depending on the business you might want as much flow of people as possible like retail shops need large flow of people to be successful) who will want your product or service. advertising, are you going to be a solo owner/worker or will you get partners or hire workers. 1. Decide what kind of business- restaraunt, cab, dog washer, whatever.
2. Go to City Hall or County Courthouse, fill out paperwork- usu 1-2 pgs, pay a small fee, get license,
3. Make sure you have the space you need to begin- a room, office, etc
4. Advertise- flyers, etc.

It all starts with a great idea. Without that, nothing will work. Then I would say laying out some plans. You don't want to just jump in head-first. You should take plenty of time to get things out on paper, such as the obvious like what kind of business, short and long-term goals, structure of the company itself,(I.E., how many employees, supervisors, going it alone, etc.) Then, if you already have the money and you're sure of how you're going to do things, start looking for a location. |

Know yourself well. Get exposure first(apprentice) to business you intend to open. Ask yourself lots of questions such as the target customers, location, foot traffic. To make thing easier choose a business franchise where you know you can adapt with your skills. In franchising you avoid the traps usually experienced(trial and error) by first timers. There's is less uncertainty as you are being back up by well experienced business entrepreneur who would guide every step of the way. |
