The one that has saved more lives than anything is the 'cat's eye' that run down the centre of the road dividing the lanes. During rain and fog it can be the Savior of many motorists.
It was invented by a man from Pudsey in Yorkshire (UK) and myth has it that they should have been called 'rabbit's eyes'. The reason being that he regularly visited a local golf club where he often drank too much and on his way home in the dark, he became aware of the reflection of the rabbits eyes on the road. He developed his idea and it was a world wide success. He is supposed to have received 1 penny for every set made. His large house had an even larger tree growing straight through it and out the roof. He was also addicted to television and in most of his rooms all he had was a large television. Apparently, he was a lovely down to earth man. A great invention, with even a greater story behind it.
