I think its for two reasons...
1. It appeals to people's desire to win
2.Gives others an idea of who out there in the internet world have heaps of spare time on their hands to sit here typing answers to the unknown (like me ha ha) |

You're asking this question AFTER you've uploaded a photo of yourself, answered and asked questions? That's a bit odd... |

why do you ask what is the point of yahoo answers??? |

the points are basically for bragging rights, and to encourage people to keep coming back. i like y! answers, but i think the points are irrelevant, since i am interested enough to check back often without them. |

some people are competitive and they like having points even though the points mean nothing. i guess it gives you a reason to do this, other than sharing knowledge. |

Novelty & to encourage us to answer peoples' questions. Unfortunately some people are points-mad. Me? I'm just here to help people by sharing any knowledge or experience I have. |

Yahoo's plan is to have their mole feed all this valuable information into Google's indexer. Level 7 people are Google operatives.

This whole thing is a pretty pointless waste of time. I'm even doing it!
A well worded GOOGLE search will result in better, higher quality answers than what's going on in here! |

The points are an incentive for people to share information while answering questions, and to learn from others' answers. |
