What is the value of $25 in 1923 worth today?

MadMaxx
In 2005, $25.00 from 1925 is worth:
$278.10 using the Consumer Price Index
$233.32 using the GDP deflator
$972.77 using the unskilled wage
$1,345.39 using the nominal GDP per capita
$3,438.17 using the relative share of GDP

baldninja2004
My dad was making 75 a week in 69 and that was considered to be middle class and by doing the reverse math, it seems that 17 a week would have been middle class in 1923, thus 23 dollars would be equivalent to about 600 dollars by todays standards.

Keep in mind, what you made back then is pretty much what you got. All of the social programs had not been started, so taxes were almost non existant.

Never use the governments projections as a source people, they are completely incompetent when it comes to money and projecting future, past and current values. These are the same peope that pay 2500 dollars for a toilet seat.

Difficult to discern; there are theoretical formulas that are based on historical data that everyone is responding with, but there are so many variables that are not considered.

I am guessing $2

Consumer Price Index in January 2003 was 16.8
In june 2006 it was 202.9

So a good estimate is $25 * 202.9 / 16.8 = $ 302

Note: I got the CPI from www.inflationdata.com. It would be good to check out a different source and compare. Other answers are also in the neighborhood of $300.

If you put $25 under your matress, it certainly wouldn't buy the same amount of stuff. Less than a dollar at 4% discount rate present value.

If you invested $25 at the annual rate of inflation (4%) for 83 years, it would be worth $648.20

TIMOTHY D L
What cost $25.00 in 1923 would cost $276.18 in 2006
