A Christian is someone who has asked Jesus Christ to come into their life & save them from their sinful lifestyle. That person accepts the bible as God's given Word, as inpired by the Holy Spirit. A true Christian tries to follow the laws of God to the best of their ability. They do not pick/choose which laws & rules they will obey. Jesus says (through the Bible) that "if you love me, you will obey what I command" (Jn 14:15). Christianity is also a relationship with God. That means that you communicate both ways. You pray to God & you listen to His word through reading the Bible, going to Church, Christian books/music, and communion with other Christians. The difference between Christianity & every other religious belief is that we don't have to "DO" anything to earn our way to Heaven. Religion is man's attempt to be good enough for God, Christianity is God's attempt to reach man & He did so by sending His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, who lived a perfect life and died for our sins on the cross. His blood washes away all of our sins because he was the perfect man/God. He was the ultimate & perfect sacrifice, & I thank God every day for His mercy. |

Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. There are different interpretations of what exactly that entails, however. In any case, Christians by definition are a part of Christianity.
As a noun, Christian is an appellation and moniker deriving from the appellation "Christ", which many people associate exclusively with Jesus of Nazareth. The first known usage of this term can be found in the New Testament of the Bible, in Acts 11:26. The term was first used to denote those known or perceived to be disciples of Christ.
As an adjective, the term may describe an object associated with Christianity. For many this also means to be a member or adherent of one of the organized religious denominations of Christianity. The term Christian means "belonging to Christ" and is derived from the Greek noun Χριστός Khristós which means "anointed one," which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word Moshiach (Hebrew: משיח, also written "Messiah"), (and in Arabic it is pronounced Maseeh مسيح). According to the New Testament, those who followed Jesus as his disciples were first called Christians by those who did not share their faith, in the city of Antioch. Xian or Xtian is another word used to describe Christians and is similar to using Xmas in place of Christmas; the X or Xt used as a contraction for "Christ" ("X" resembles the Greek letter Χ (Chi), the first letter of "Christ" in Greek (Χριστός [Christos]). |

According to a dictionary: (for me a Christian is definition number 1)
1. One who believes, or professes or is assumed to believe, in Jesus Christ, and the truth as taught by Him; especially, one whose inward and outward life is conformed to the doctrines of Christ.
The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
- Acts xi. 26.
2. One born in a Christian country or of Christian parents, and who has not definitely becomes an adherent of an opposing system.
3. (Eccl.) One of a Christian denomination which rejects human creeds as bases of fellowship, and sectarian names. They are congregational in church government, and baptize by immersion. They are also called Disciples of Christ, and Campbellites.
a. 1. Pertaining to Christ or his religion; as, Christian people.
3. Pertaining to the church; ecclesiastical; as, a Christian court.
4. Characteristic of Christian people; civilized; kind; kindly; gentle; beneficent.
The graceful tact; the Christian art. |

According to my personal beliefs, a Christian is the believer and follower of the teachings of Christ. I personally don't believe a lot of the bible is true, or should even be followed in modern society. It was written as a set of rules for people hundreds and hundreds of years ago and have no credibility today. Unfortunately most "Christians" tend to hide behind the bible and use it as an excuse to perpetuate their own prejudice, ignorance, and hate. It's these people (Fred Phelps is a great example) that besmudge Christianity in everyone's eyes. |

I'm going to get into a lot of trouble for this, so I'll just apologize right now...
Apparently a Christian is someone who thinks he has the blessing and backing of a vengeful hateful overpowering Overseer. Why else would atrocities against other humans, animals, nature, the environment, etc. etc. etc. be condoned... in the name of Christ???
Fred Phelps and other hypocrites like him are giving Christians a BAD name... How... IN THE NAME OF CHRIST... can ANYONE condone picketing a SOLDIER'S FUNERAL??????? |

A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus and follow's His word. A crazy Christian is a person who tries to shove their religion down your throat with every word they speak. A passive Christian is someone who goes to church for an hour each week out of guilt or fear of going to Hell. |

A person who believes that Jesus is the son of God and that he died for our sins. Also that we read the Bible and practice what we learn from it. Namely, "To love one another" and "to do unto others what you would have them do unto you." You must truly believe these things with all your heart. |

Good question. People say that believing in Jesus is all it takes. But I also believe you have to act like the way Jesus laid out the laws in the bible. |
