What kind of Ebay scam is this? Help?
Ok, I sold a Creative Zen Multimedia player on the 17 August to thio guy and sent it special registered delivery cos it's worth over £200. The guy then said he didn't get it despite the fact it shows online it was received and signed for. He also bought a PSP player from another ebayer on the same day then contacted him to say the same thing "I didn't get it" . After paying us, he closed his paypal account? His phone number is invalid, he doesn't reply to emails. do you reckon he:
1)Either hijacked someone's paypal account to pay us
2) Used a stolen credit card to pay us in which case we are liable to pay back the credit card company as we don't have seller protection. We sent to an "unconfirmed paypal address" which I wasn't aware of.
3) He is the person who own the credit card but is just trying to get both the goods and the money.
I've reported him to paypal and ebay but I really can't work it out. For example if he wanted back his money.. why close down his paypal account?
Additional Details
ASK.. really did not understand you response?

Mr. X.
1) If you traded through Paypal even on a hijacked account you've no worries.
2) If he used a stolen credit card, you've already got the money and cannot be expected to pay back the money.
3) If it is his credit card, the post office has a signature for receiving the parcel.
It is a very strange situation and also a strange coincidence that it happened to two people exactly the same. Did you declare the true value of the goods on the registered delivery form, because that is insurance for loss, damage, etc.
I think from the chain of events that he has used a stolen, (or certainly not his), credit card and is just trying to pull a fast one.
If he was genuine then he wouldn't close his account, and if he was then he would get repayment from his credit card company.

If you sent to an unconfirmed Paypal address, unfortunately you are SOL. Your seller's protection is lost. Also, if he used a stolen card, you are SOL, particularly since you sent to an unconfirmed address. Paypal specifically notifies you that you are shipping to an unconfirmed address when you accept payment. Live and learn. I wouldn't do it again in the future.

Do you actually have the money in your account? If so, then you have no problem - you can demonstrate someone received the goods - I'd transfer the money out of your PP account immediately into your bank account though, and maybe close your paypal account to make sure it can;t be charged back...

peachy
are you sure he closed his account and not been removed - eBay cannot tell you this.

I have come across a few idiots these make genuine people look bad. it is soooo unfair i know.

one person took too much money, another sold me fake sun glasses when told they were real, others suddenly lose money/items....

That's terrible, I've had better experiences on eBay, but only as a buyer. I hope they can charge back his account.
Sorry to hear about that, keep in touch with paypal, and let everybody know if they let this deadbeat get away with it.

when using paypal you need to send stuff by online trackable means if you did this follow the info that paypal gives you ie enter the tracking number and fax off a copy of it then you will be ok.
paypal is safe for buyers but not for sellers too easy to get scammed its ok for low value items but i will never use for high value items far too risky
try bank draft or transfer instead once you have the money there is no comeback on you i know a lot of people use paypal because ebay make it to easy
try ringing paypal you will find the contact us link at the bottom of your paypal home page they will guide you into what to do step by step, they will be closed now but do give them a ring tommorrow, alas they are not always helpful though

if you want anymore help dont hesistate to ask

Austin Powers
sounds like a scam to me im sure you will be contacted by the credit card company either way 1 if its stolen and 2 if he disputes the charge if he disputes the charge claiming nondelivery you have a signature proving otherwise i would either call his cc company or wait for them to call you

fr_chuck
most likely stolen credit info or maybe the highjacked account,

Keep a copy of all of your records, print out the paperwork just in case it comes back to you.

Just let him give you a negative feedback and go through paypal to maybe get your stuff back...nothing is guaranteed but if you put a claim in it will get handled...it happened to me and it ended up getting my money back and never got the item. Good luck

Steph j
Any of the above! If you sent it registered and can prove it then you have nothing to worry about. just another idiot trying it on!
I am assuming you have your money though?

There really are some low down scum bags about and you cant trust anybody anymore. I do hope everything works out for you ok and just for the record were not all like that idiot x

You said a lot of things, but what you DIDN'T say is that he filed a claim with paypal to get his money back.

Until he does that, you don't have a problem. You are spinning your wheels for nothing.

Unfortunately Ebay won't really do anything to help you. The most they do is disallow him to participate in Ebay(which as you've said he has done to himself). Paypal is your best bet of finding the info on whether the card is stolen. I would not transfer the money back until you find out. As long as you are making an effort at finding out I don't see you being charged with anything. Ebay does have some programs for unpaid item's (if it end's up the card is stolen) Even if you are not insured. Problem is you have to dig deep to find them and work hard to get them! Good Luck.

let pay pal sort it out if you get your money all should be ok if the police get involved make sure you have a copy of what was signed for on delivery and keep his address
