What should I do if some one owes me $230.00?
She is the boss's daughter. I did work for her as a side job. We verbally agreed on a price. She claims now that she has unexpected bills and she didn't make as much on the job as she originally thought. She has paid me almost half of what we agreed on and says she will not pay the rest because it was an honest mistake. She was interested in me romantically.

Take her to small claims court. Don't drag the boss into it, as he's not involved in the deal, and you're not trying to make him responsible for it.

tell her you'll take her to small claims court. i would call her and ask for the money again, if she says she is not paying you say well then i will take you to court. if you record the conversation then you can use it in court. make sure you say the right things to get her to admit you had a verbal agreement.

Take her to small claims court. Be prepared to present your case.

I do not believe that it was an "honest mistake." Also, whether or not she is/was romantically interested in you is totally irrelevant.

You should send her a written invoice or letter stating the facts:
"Dear ABC,
When you asked to me do _______ we agreed on a price of _____________. I completed the job to your satisfaction and have so far received $_________.

You still owe $____ for the work that I have completed.

You have 10 days within receipt of this letter to remit the
balance.

If I do not receive $__________ by July_____, 2006, I will be forced to go to Small Claims Court.

Sincerely,
_________"

Since she is the boss's daughter, you may or may not want to send the above letter and sue her in Small Cliams Court, if necessary.

Alternatively, approach your boss and explain the situation. Either he will pay you himself, he will have his daughter pay you, or you will find out that your boss is as much a creep as his ddaughter.

Good Luck!

Since it was verbally I think you will need to take it as a loss. I know it is a lot of money. But for future money askers if they can not pay their bills on time every month or if they can not keep a job they can not borrow money from you. They have those check cashing place all around the world...If your state has a law for verbal contract then take it to civil court

DougBriggs
Do you have a written agreement that clearly spells out the agreement? If not, forget it. If so, consider small claims court. But talk to her about it before you file, maybe settle for half, or some amount.

$230 isn't a lot of money and doesn't warrant getting too involved over. Go on down the road.
