You can trace the origin of monies deposited to your account, maybe it isn't a mistake. All said and done you do have to inform your bank of this, they will investigate it further. Do not start transferring the cash about your accounts or spending it.....it could be a money laundering scam, that although you know nothing about you will end up as an accessory.
If you are uneasy about it being there, ask the bank to transfer it to one of there domestic internal accounts for you till further notice.
Unfortunately anyone can lodge to your account but only you can debit it.

You could i suppose, but if its illegal as in from a drug dealer or something and you use it it will be assumed that you are part of the plan and before you know it, the police will be there at your door to arrest you. |

If you know it is not yours you are not entitled to spend it. You should notify the bank of the error. If you do spend it, the bank will reclaim it from you. |

you can, but once the bank finds out that there was a mistake, they will take the money from you once your next deposit hits the bank. |

No, and the bank will catch the error, so anything that you've spent, you will have to pay back. Alert the bank to the error and let them handle rather than having it hang over you head |

you should wait, a lot of banks have some protection on this when things get deposited into a wrong or different account, don't take it out because the bank may get to it.
I had this issue when the teller went too fast and deposited my paycheck into my pa's account and not mine. They pulled it out of his and dropped it back into mine. But I wondered if in that short amount of time, if my da' checked his account and spent that money. |
