Cerified cheque or a cashiers cheque. Ask him if it is either of these. If he says yes then he is genuine. If he says no then he is lying. All other cheques will need time to clear. |

Actually, your bank may release the money to you at the same day. However, the problem is that if the check can't be honored (your bank can't get money from other side), your bank will ask you for the money. And of course, yo will be responsibel to pay them back. Sometime, it takes over a month to make sure the check really goes through.
I won't believe any oversea new customer's check. Or I would wait to give a new oversea customer any thing until my bank confirm she gets the money.
Good Luck! |

IF IT WAS ME I WOULDN'T DO IT.....EVEN BY GIVING THE DETAILS REQUESTED CON ARTISTS HAVE WAYS AND MEANS OF OBTAINING MORE INFORMATION ABOUT YOU, BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR CLEARING SO YOUR ACTUALLY BETTER DOING THE TRANSFER (of goods and money) VIA OTHER MEANS, AND I ARGEE WITH THE COMMENT THAT I JUST READ , IF THIS PERSON IS GENUINE THEN THEY WILL NOT MIND WAITING AS SURLY THEY UNDERSTAND THEY PROCEDURES IN CHEQUE CLEARINGS. |

I'm pretty sure that cashiers cheques that are available from banks don't have clearence periods. Their also called bankers drafts but whoever is sending it will need name and address details from you. Like any cheque they can be forged though. |

Personal checks need 3-5 days. A cashier's check does not - the bank has received the money from the person already and they issue the check directly. If it is a personal check - no way. |

As far as I am aware there is no type of cheque that will clear immediately. Even a bankers draft, which is issued from the Banks account, rather than the customers account, takes 3 days to clear. As you have mentioned a lot of £ here, and you are already in doubt as to whether the buyer is genuine, then I'd steer well clear. You could put a condition on the sale, that the goods will not be released to him, until the cheque has cleared. If he's genuine, I'm sure he'd accept this. |

A cashier's check also came to my mind instantly when I read your question. The bank is guaranteeing so to speak that it has collected that amount of cash from you and that it is guaranteeing that its voucher is worth that amount of money. A cashier's check becomes a transaction between the person to whom it is made out and the bank rather than two individuals as would be the case with a personal check. At least that has always been my understanding. |

If you do not get paid in Cash Money, Take at least 3 Weeks for check to clear and not come back on you.
If it is out of Country cheque, DO NOT ACCEPT IT. |
