Customer service is very expensive. That's why companies prefer to use web sites and automated telephone systems to handle as much routine customer service as possible. Many companies are starting to offer different tiers of customer service. For example a bank might offer you "premium" customer service but then the fees they charge you might be higher or the minimum account balances might be higher, etc.
People complain about poor customer service but it gets worse because people are not willing to pay more to get good customer service. When people shop for the absolute lowest price without consideration for the level of customer service that is one more vote for poor customer service.
My favorite line is when you go to a web site and it's down and it says something like "to better serve you this site is unavailable right now". Excuse me. |

I think it went out of fashion, along with bubble-skirts and muscle-shirts.
Companies these days think customers will use their services no matter what, and unfortunately they are often right, because consumers put up with so much cr*p from them but never actually write letters of complaint, etc.
Perhaps it is the consumer's fault, for being so apathetic. |

I don't believe it still exists. Not only has SERVICE to the customer died, but any kind of REGARD for the customer at all seems to be dying.
This is also true of employees, by the way. No regard for customers, no regard for employees - only the shareholders (and then only the large shareholders) matter. |
