No, they cannot find out. This is not public information. You don't want them contacting your current employer in any case.
The conventional wisdom is not to lie but to dodge this question with weasel words like "I'm sure we can agree on a suitable salary." NEVER lie to a potential employer. If they somehow find out you lied - about anything - it's all over. They can fire you even after you're hired if they later detect a falsehood.
If there's a form you have to fill out which asks for desired salary, say "negotiable." If it asks for current salary, say "will discuss in person" and get the interview. |

Yes they can find out as far as I know, but it also depends on the company. When my fiance applied for the job he currently has, they did a full background check. He was required to turn in all his w2 forms, and they company also received the information from his previous companies. |

They may try but I doubt they'll get anything
Your employer(s) know you could sue them,..kind of like a breach of trust |

Very easily if they look into public records. |

They can always try, but they'll never be able to find out for sure. There's always uncertainty so you can tell them whatever they want. Do like Obama and tell them what they wanna hear. |

It really depends on what state you're in, but I don't think you employer can give out information about your salary. They could do a credit check though, and a lot of companies nowadays do, so they'd find out then. The bottom line is do you want the job enough to do it for less than it says as long as it is more than you make now....tough decision. |

No! they ask you what your salary requirement's are. And you list what you feel your worth or You think you can get, Don't short change yourself and dont over ask! Go for it! 95k! would be my thing! I've done a bit of work, in HR and we dont go snooping for that! mainly job references! and back ground. |

Well i suppose they can find out by their own means (that is if they feel like it) but its up to you to take the risk. |

When companies call for references they will ask what they made per year, so don't lie because if they would offer you the job, then they find out you lied you could lose your opportunity, Just be honest and you still might have a chance to get it. Companies understand that other companies under pay there employees so don't lose hope and go for it. |

There's always a way to find anything out. The question is, how easy would it be for them to find out? |
