I'm sure some of them do. I saw one once and his sign said "need money for alcohol and drugs" and I mean I have no problem giving it to him since he was honest about it. |

I usually give money to the "hobos" that are really old. I think that a good number of them spend it on beer and drugs but, it doesn't matter because God knows your heart. |

I don't think all of them do.
but I worked at a grocery store for a while, and there used to be this guy who would stand out front with his cardboard sign asking for money. every day he would come through my checkout line with nothing but beer. so go figure. and he was the rudest guy I ever had to deal with there!
so be careful who you give your money to!
If I want to help someone out like that, I give them food or a coat or something--no money!!!!! |

Some do abuse the privlage of being homless to take the money decent people give them to get crack or coke or beer. I am sorry that this turns you on. There are some that do not have it as good as you. You should take the time to find out about the person that has less than you. You just might find some rich person that just dose not care for sociaty today. You never know. |

Nope, believe it's mainly for cheap wine. |

No, though its true that among the homeless there is both alcoholism and drug abuse there are many desperate people who really only try to find some food.
Still it is better to support a charity organisation or a local church that you know does good charity work so you can be certain the money you do give goes to people who need it and in a way that is good for them (eg food and a blanket instead of the beer you mentioned) |

Nope, because I don't give them any money. |

I don't ever give to people I see on the street who are begging for cash. You never know what your money will be used for. Plus, it should say something that these people would rather sit out on the street all day & beg, rather than look for a job. Instead I donate clothes, old housewears, & the occasional check to various charities. |

That's why you never give homeless people straight cash. You give them food or clothing, nothing else. |

a lot of them do...i mean some of them r on that corner because of drugs and alcohol but sometimes thats more of a stereo type than reality....i give money to a lot of ppl on the streets because i know where they r cuming frum....most of my family has lived on the streets, done drugs, got addicted to drugs, became alcoholics, been in jail, or had no way to get sum place cuz they didnt hav a car....so plz if u do see a person like that use ur best judgement but dont stereo type... |

My all-time favorite panhandler was a kid on Telegraph in Berkeley with a sign that said, "Food is free, beer is not". I gave him a couple of bucks.
Honestly, once the money leaves my hand, which is not that often (living in Brooklyn, I'd be broke if I gave to everyone who asks), I don't really think it's any of my business where it goes. |

I don't know they sure might. Me, I'm a sucker for the ones with dogs with them. I always give them those cans of dog food with the pop-tops and a gallon jug of water. |

I have seen them spend it on beer or wine, but I have also seen them spend it on food for themself or for their pet. I guess it depends on the homeless person. =-) |

Depends on the person. My dad was telling me once that while he worked at a restaurant as a kid there was this homeless guy who held up a sign saying, "Will work for food," and the owner of the restaurant told everyone not to give him anything...but one waitress decided to bring him a tray of food. He knocked it out of her hands and said, "(insert profanity here)! I don't want your food, give me money!" |
