I can think of at least 15 reasons for you NOT to leave.
You can see them listed in this link;
http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-AIlMSygyc78McJRzGUSK5PsS?p=35#comment
I think a much better idea is to stay and help iron out the wrinkles of this Beta thing.
Some members have formed "relationships" here. I know, I for one, have become fond of you. I would not want to see you go. If all of the "Good Guys" leave, what will be left?
We run into problems with all of our relationships from time to time, but just because things are not going great in the moment. do you leave your wife? Because your children are acting up, do you abandon them? I do not think so.
Like it or not Richard, you ARE an icon here. You ARE a part of the history that is beingt written about this crazy thing called Yahoo! Answers. Some have become very fond of you. Your absence would be a loss to every user here.
So in closing, I say, if you are getting frustrated, sure take a break, BUT PLEASE, do not stay away for too long. |

No matter how many people tell you it's time to quit Yahoo! Answers, only one persons answer will count in the end. I'm not trying to sound philosophical, but that one persons answer is you. |

I especially agree with "Perhaps when it becomes more like a job and less like something you enjoy." I was thinking this just the other day. |

I'll just know. One day, I'll get up and walk away from my computer and I'll come back the next day and I'll think to myself, hmmm...should I log on to Yahoo answers, and I'll say to myself, NAH, I'm kinda bored with that...and then another day will pass, and then another and so on and so on. It won't be a slow death, but it will be unexpected and after a month or so of not logging on, I'll think of it and it will surprise me. That's how it will happen for me. Subconsciously it will happen and probably because I can't stand to see questions like, " how do I know if he likes me", or " which came first the chicken or the egg". Not to be critical, but those do drive me crazy after a while!! Same ole, same ole.
After that troutsniffer41 will slowly fade from YahooAnswers memory. I'll just hope I'll left a legacy of good answers and community spirit. |

When you get to level 7, you should take a break... |

Richard, I think that in your quest to the top you are somehow feeling a little burned out. I feel that people that post questions and already know the answers are just trying to showoff how smart they are and only useful to stimulate somebody to think and generally most of the questions will have been already answered or can be answered with a simple goggle search. |

Maybe you should ask Anirudh Koul who was a shoe in to reach level seven first... And it seems that he just quit. Maybe reality hit home... What purpose does all this serve anyway? The only stat that I would like to see the number of best answers... as far as I'm concerned that is the one and only stat that counts!!!! Where is it??? |

Simple.
When it is no longer fun.
Yahoo is an entertainment portal. Yahoo Answers is a fun way to share knowledge and learn new things. Most peopel hang around for a while, do their thing and take it easy. A few are point hounds. A few really go the extra mile to help others.
But whatever your motivation, when it no longer is fun. When you don't wake up wanting to see all the new questions and if you were picked as best then it is time to ask is it time.
I have to agree. It is frustrating to see a good answer go by the wayside because it was never acted upon. Or during voting 2 votes choose some stupid answer instead of the correct one. I think total points is a useful stat, but I think % of best answers would show more benefit to the user.
I am far from being anywhere near the top, but I do bump into you all over the palce on Yahoo Answers, so your diverse mixure of questions and answers would be a loss to the community. Perhaps it is time for a vacation. Let your pending answers earn you a few more points and take a break. If it is still fun, then continue. If it is still not fun, then retirement may be best.
Good luck! |

It's time to quit if you don't enjoy it anymore...that's a good rule of thumb for anything. I think though, if you were to take a break, and come back fresh, you may find that maybe you still enjoy it - just in smaller doses!
If anything, maybe instead of 'retiring' you could stay on 'part time'? |

For me, it is time to quit Yahoo! Answers when Yahoo! itself shuts this down. Yes, you're right, that somehow people misuse and somehow the lame answers became the best. But, we have to be perceptive that some people really get their answers in this place... |

According my opinion, it depends on why someone participates here.
I participate (primarily)for fun,it is relaxing for me, so I don't care if they take as best answer a wrong answer and not the correct one.
I can't do anything about this, so why should I care?
People has to keep his eyes open and try to understand what is convenient for him.
And as it is not a job(at least for me), we can do it when we feel that we want to do it. Without caring about gaining points or whatever else. We are not at school, then!
Some things in our life, are created to give us pleasure, it is not everything a duty. We try to help somebody giving our own opinion, because we feel it....just this. Nothing more.
You see, it's just a question of mentality.

Dont stress over this sooo much, go solve world poverty or something...but the limit for yahoo! answers is when you start checking leaderboards for points... |

I think when you are at the top of the Leaderboard maybe it is time to give someone else a chance. |

I have not been on here nearly as long as you but I too have many of the same concerns you have. This week I am pushing hard to get to level six and then I am taking a break. I'm not sure how long of a break...
I would ask you not to quit Answers, you were the first person I started watching (at the time I couldn't find a leaderboard, just liked your answers), you have provided many great questions but more importantly many great answers. While one person really won't make much of a difference but before you quit, you have to find someway for yahoo answers to make a hall of fame and make you the first inductee (and the hamster second, we all miss him/her).
As for the number one change I would like to see is for the leaderboard to be able to be sorted by number of best answers. I really like the top ten answerers within the categories but am really curious about overall and in subcategories. (second would be one answer questions over a month old).
Good luck in whatever endeavor you so choose to pursue. |

I just got here, and I think I will stick around for a good while. I am not here to be the best, I just like to be able to answer questions that I feel I have an answer too, other than that, I don't get into the "drama" inherent to a race to the top of the leaderboard, I could careless about that part of this site. |

When you feel Yahoo! Answers? is enjoyable, then log on and help others, when you don't, do something that you feel 'enjoyable'. 'Temporary quittings' make things more enjoyable when we come back to it. |

Well, you've made it to the top...you're so secure there you could go on a two week vacation and probably still be in first.
If it isn't fun anymore, then I guess it's time to quit...but people will miss you. And even though the reasons you listed are very true, having someone like you around keeps people like ME wanting to stay around. If all of the people who give a crap left, then YA would be left with a bunch of people giving crappy answers, fighting for their seat at the top. |

Judging by the fact that you are number one on this thing. I would say right about now. You should probably get help for your compulsive nature. Just kidding. I hope my dad never finds out about this stuff or I will never seem him again. |
