Who knows these days between gas prices, food prices, taxes and all the other living expenses, it seems like everything is going up but our paychecks! |

It doesn't matter. The problem is, no one is taking inflation into account. If you do, gas prices are NOT at an all time high, as the overreacting media would have us believe. |

When you reduce the number of gallons you buy each year.
You can start today buying a 1999 (Or newer) Volkwagen New Beetle (Or any other model) with a Diesel Engine. |

The long term trend for gas prices is higher...drastically higher.
This is because of we are at or nearing "peak" world production
(See Hubbert's Peak link below)
As the world passes peak, the demand will outstrip supply, and prices will rise exponentially.
This is likely to result in a worldwide energy crisis, and much warfare over continually dwindling resources (eg. Iraq)
Right now, the US consumes 1/4 of the entire earth's supply of oil and the demand is highly inelastic (ie. People must use oil to function)
Prepare yourself for future gas price shocks ($4-$10/gal), as we pass peak over the next 5-10 years. |

When we find more oil at home & build more Refinerys to process it. Which will never happen |

Gas prices will rise and fall, but they are not going to go down much. We will probably never see $2.00 a gallon again, and we may never even see $2.50. The problems are structural: gas production is going down at the same time that many new countries are developing and using more fuel. Combine that with Americans' love for big, fast cars, and you have a recipe for high prices for as far as we can see. |

It just a matter of supply and demand. When the demand drops the price will drop accordingly. The problem is even with $3.00 gasoline the growth has been reduced but were using more oil every year! We all need to do our part and push for alternatives. I hate to say this being from the midwest, but elthanol is not the total answer either but it is step in right direction. |
