Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. However, when employers do offer short breaks (usually lasting about 5 to 20 minutes), federal law considers the breaks work-time that must be paid. Unauthorized extensions of authorized work breaks need not be counted as hours worked when the employer has expressly and unambiguously communicated to the employee that the authorized break may only last for a specific length of time, that any extension of the break is contrary to the employer's rules, and any extension of the break will be punished.

Bona fide meal periods (typically lasting at least 30 minutes), serve a different purpose than coffee or snack breaks and, thus, are not work time and are not compensable.

(More info with specific regulations quoted at the site listed below)

Typically for an 8 hour day you get two 15 minute paid breaks, and anywhere from half-an-hour to an hour for lunch, which is unpaid.

I start my job at 8am, take a 15 minute break at 9:30, an hour lunch at 11am, another 15 minute at 2pm, and I go home at 5pm.

idk plz answer my question

Depends on your state. Normally 30 minute lunch and 15 minute breaks.

Heather
I think that if you work under either 4 1/2 or 5 hours you have one 15 minute break. If you work over 5 then you are entitled to have two 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch. But it might depend on the state you work in. If you try to search them, look up fair labor standard acts. Or just try these sites:

Awaken Child,

Your schedule would not get me fired in today's world, but the new job assignments would kill me in 2 days or less. My employer would call it a natural death.

That's pretty much the norm for the average worker from 9 - 5pm.
I work from 7:30 am to 5pm and I do get an 1 hour lunch and two 15 mins breaks...plus overtime.

Dave
Depends on whether your job is classified as "exempt" or "non-exempt". If you're non-exempt, then state labor laws set minimums. If you're exempt, it's whatever your employer's policy is.

Depends on the company.
its usually 2 15 minute breaks and a 1/2 hour lunch (example if your work hours are 9am to 4:30 pm you would get a 1/2 hour lunch if you are required to work until 5pm them you would get an hour lunch)

For 7 hours, we get a 30 minute unpaid lunch and two ten minute breaks. I believe this is a Starbucks national standard, and they are pretty good about treating their employees well.

tomosarse
Minimum is a 20 minute break if you`re doing 8 hours.

simple one
It's hour lunch and 1-15 minute break

Depends on your state...check the dept of labor regulations for the state you are employed in. But where I live you were right on.

i think you are right. naturally you're greedy, malicious employers would deny you this right if you didn't fight for it. but they could always fire you for no stated reason( thank you Dick Cheney) and hire someone a bit less informed.
