I suggest talking to other moms, esp if they have kids just ahead of your kids' ages (there is your "what to expect" clause right there!), or seasoned grandmas and nannies that have all the real-world experience.
In the end though, you have most of the really important info within yourself. Ask your BEST self what to do, or maybe it should be trying to BE your best self with your kids, and then do those things.
When dealing with your kids, remember they are people first, although that doesn't mean small adults, but they are not some mystery breed. How do you like to be treated, what are your shortcomings and talents? Because kids are bursting with human nature. They will respond to being treated with kindness and dignity very very well, as well as lots and lots of patience and time taken to figure out how they look at things, because this is when you learn a few things yourself.
I suppose you can get a lot of your nuts and bolts info from the net, just like anything else. Just be careful who's advice you take from what website. You might not like THIS entry on this online advice board, and that's fine.
Parents magazine is good.
Just be your best self with your kids. The information you seek is NOT as important as WHO you raise your kids to be. |

There are those that put a lot of trust in Dr. Benjamin Spock's books. I would try your local library & see what they have on raising children. |

Ask other parents whose children have grown up well. You can read dozens, or even hundreds of books on this, but if you haven't been a parent, you won't really know what it's like. Getting advice from a book or someone who has no children would be like asking a man what it's like to be pregnant.
If you think you've turned out pretty well, then ask your own parents. Otherwise, ask someone else's parents. If you have a friend that you really respect, see if you can ask your friend's parents.
Unfortunately children don't come with an owner's manual (even though they should) so do the best you can, follow your instincts and ask! |

Hopefully you could ask your parents/grand parents. If that's not working, there is a pot load of parenting books in the public library. But as long as you love them, it will come naturally, we hope! Good Luck!!~:)x |

They say that the best partents are parents who are in love. Spend a lot of energy loving your partner and parenting will be a breeze.
If your single, get attached. |

In the book of Proverbs, KGV...and I'm not a church going Christian, but the key to me was raising my daughter with the love and admonition of the lord...smiles...plus I told her that no matter if she ever lied to me that God saw everything she did and would tell me sooner or later ( I just never told her all the ways I could fine out) and he would have a long talk with her...and me too...chuckles. She's 21...we went through a lot...lost two homes due to automobile accidents, was home taught, nominated for Who's Who of American High Schools Students and accepted...among other High Honor associations...and when I had my accident she went to work to help pay the bills w/no complaints...I let God Guide me...not my dysfunctional family or friends whom I love dearly...they all criticized me...but she is now living in Australia...fulfilling her dreams and visions from a young girl...getting a free education...over came many adversities...you see...there's no where in scripture that states that just because a child has been though adversities that we as the parent are to permit excuses for them to misbehave, be disrepectful, to be disobediant, or not to be honorable...it says no matter what we go through...we are to always do our best...and be our best...and to never say we can't do something...but to believe that we can and search for a way to do it...I'm not going to tell what happend to my family's and frien's children...and yes, I am human, make mistakes, asked for forgiveness when I made them with her, so that she would ask me when she made hers...and do enjoy thos'e good ole cook outs with a few drinks...being a Christian doesn't mean to stop living...it's just a better way of living with love. |
